DS (19 months) has tuna pasta bake at nursery and apparently he loves it. I have, on occasion bought bolognese pasta bake from Asda and he loves that too. Now, I would like to make my own version without succumbing to a jar of pasta bake sauce. I thought I could add/hide a load of veggies in there too maybe? Does anyone have any tried and tested recipes? Also, if it doesn't all get eaten, can it be kept and microwaved the next day or will the pasta go all hard and chewy? Thanks

I usually do a pasta bake with the leftovers I have from a rost chicken.
I cook the pasta half the time given on the pack and layer it in a pyrex dish (with lid) with frozen veg and the leftover chicken (shredded). pour over leftover sauce. mix a small tin of chopped tomatoes with one or two eggs and pour over. grate some cheese over the top cover the dish and bake in the oven (fan oven) at 175 for about 45 min.
delicious and I can freeze and reheat leftovers no problem. maybe ad a spoonfull of water before reheating in the microwave.

I make a really quick Tuna pasta bake when we need a hot meal in a hurry, always goes down well.

Stir tuna into cheese sauce and then mixed with cooked pasta, crated cheese on the top and then baked until it's hot and bubbly.

Oh GOD I remember a MN thread years ago about tuna pasta bake, it kicked off spectacularly.

Girls, be prepared for people to come on here and say pasta bake, how disgusting.

Oh that was a funny thread

Me too, GetOrf.

"It's FISH with CHEESE!!!"

itstheyearzero · 31/07/2010 07:01

I must admit I don't really get the whole fish with cheese thing, but if it's only sprinkled on top it's not that bad...is it? Am more a fan of the tomatoey ones myself. Is it terribly common to eat pasta bake then?

I love fish with cheese.
I make the best tuna pasta bake, even if I do say it myself I always make more than I need so I can eat it again for lunch the next day.
I mix 2 tins of drained tuna with some cooked pasta in a large dish, add some cheese sauce, top with more cheese and cherry tomatoes, then bake till the cheese has melted.
Eat with garlic bread.

Chicken and bacon with passatta tomatoe sauce. You can puree some veg and hide it in the passatta if you like.

Lazy one that I like - obviously could be halved:

500g pasta shapes
500g jar of garlic and onion pasta sauce - sometimes use my own one, mostly use a jar Grin
200g chopped, cooked chicken/ham/tuna/quorn pieces/sausages
1 tin of cannelini beans
100g cheddar cheese, grated

Put pasta, sauce, and other ingredients into a large baking dish, fill empty jar with water and pour in. Sprinkle a bit of cheese and maybe some breadcrumbs on top. Bake at 200 for 40 minutes or until pasta is cooked.
Nice with broccoli or green beans.
