Just wondering which books are people's bibles!

OP posts:
champagnesupernova · 22/07/2010 18:35

ONE is a bit mean
Prob domestic goddess Nigella
But it would be a toss-up between that and Nigel Slater

RockinSockBunnies · 22/07/2010 18:37

I'd go with my trusty Usborne First Cookery Book. I was given it aged six or seven and it's still used regularly today. It has great sweet and savoury dishes, including a lovely recipe for chocolate brownies, a good one for fruit cake and a beautiful courgette gratin.

LadyCad · 22/07/2010 18:37

nigella's "feast", i think.

nannyl · 22/07/2010 18:38

good housekeeping. loads and loads, incl basics

cheesypopfan · 22/07/2010 18:40

my mum's copy of the Good Housekeeping cookbook published around 1964. Use it for soooo much, plus it is a nice reminder of my mum

megonthemoon · 22/07/2010 18:41

Boring, but probably Delia's Complete Cookery book as it has a wide variety of stuff in it. It's not my fave cookery book, but probably my most indispensable.

Second on list would be Rick Stein's Mediterranean one as all of the recipes I've tried are utterly delicious

AnnieOneForTennis · 22/07/2010 18:42

The Silver Spoon (Italian bible of cookery)

RobynLou · 22/07/2010 18:43

delias complete cookery course

TabithaTwitchet · 22/07/2010 18:43

Happy to give my cookbooks away, I tend to mostly find recipes now in Sainsbury's/Waitrose/BBC Good Food magazines.
If I could keep one cook book, it would be Real Fast Puddings by Nigel Slater

poppy34 · 22/07/2010 18:46

Toss up between nigella how to eat or tamasin day
Lewis kitchen bible but probably the second one. Have pruned down my collection a lot as realized there was a lot of books I never or used once.

smugmumofboys · 22/07/2010 18:46

Nigella's Feast as well. If only for the Snow-flecked Brownies recipe.

bred · 22/07/2010 18:53

Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food. Love it.

LadyBiscuit · 22/07/2010 18:57

Nigel Slater real fast food. There's always the internet

I have to say that the fairycakes recipe that someone anonymously posted on here is now my signature party gift though

Flossbert · 22/07/2010 18:58

nigel slater's real food - taught me to be much less dictated to by recipes, ironically.

bibbitybobbityhat · 22/07/2010 19:01

Nigella's How To Eat.

I don't actually own that many cookery books, come to think of it.

Another favourite is Jane Grigson's Vegetable book, just a little paperback without illustrations, but gives hundreds of ideas for every vegetable you could ever think of and is incredibly helpful for when you are looking for healthy and/or veggie recipes.

BelligerentGhoul · 22/07/2010 19:03

All of you Domestic Goddess fans, which recipes are best in it?

skidoodly · 22/07/2010 19:03

Can I keep my recipe folder?

If not I'd keep Off the Shelf by Donna Hay - full of fast everyday recipes and good ideas that get incorporated into your cooking ouevre.

Actually no, I know too many if them by heart. Final vote for Cooking Like Mummyji by Vicky Bhogal.

Kathyjelly · 22/07/2010 19:07

My Antonio Carlucci. You can tell by the number of pages with thumb marks.

juneybean · 22/07/2010 19:08

The Be-Ro Recipe Book haha

KatyMac · 22/07/2010 19:09

Ideally the one I write in but if not that the 'Hamlyn All-colour cookbook' as it has one or two recipes I wouldn't be without

nancydrewrocked · 22/07/2010 19:10

Probably How to Eat, although I do like my Nigel Slater books...hmmmm decisions decisions....

Quality · 22/07/2010 21:28

How to eat because I use the charts etc in the front of that moer often than anything, but could I keep my personal book which is my inventions/notes from programmes/out of magazines? cos if that counts I'd have to keep that.

pebblejones · 22/07/2010 21:33

Nigella Express... I've used it more than any other cookbook.
