Camembert-What do I do with it?

A coworker gave me a big wedge of Camembert today. Ive never had it before; do you cook with it, or just smear it on something and eat it?

Either eat it with bread/biscuits/celery/apples, or bake it with some rosemary shoved in the middle and then smear it all warm and lovely onto rusty bread.

Yum.

Don't have it fridge cold - its best at a nice warish room temperature.

Bake it - it's bloomin' lovely.

Slice a lattice into the top of it - across one way and then the other. Stick shards of garlic and rosemary leaves in the cross-points of the lattice. Sprinkle with pepper and drizzle with a drop of white wine if you've got some open (will be fine without it).

Stick it back into the bottom bit of the wooden box, wrap in foil and bake it for about half an hour. Eat with crusty bread (not rusty bread!), radishes, celery etc.

Bury it.

Oh you are so lucky - once I've had this baby I am going to buy the stinkiest ripest camembert I can find and eat the lot

I like it with crunchy baguette on its own or with onion marmalade or apple

If it's a round one you can stick some garlic cloves in and bake/microwave and then use as a dip

I'm very jealous!!

Camembert and mushroom cheese sauce to go on baked potatoe is very very nice.

Spread on crusty bread and eat

Spread on biscuits (Digestive or Hovis are good, or very plain ones like water biscuits) and eat

Really good with slices of apple or a bit of celery or grapes

or you can cook it - baking in its box only really works if you have the whole cheese (sounds like you have a wedge instead) - but you could wrap it in puff or filo pastry and bake. Delicious.

Or cut into bits, cover each bit in breadcrumbs and shallow fry (or deep fry if you do deep frying)

try eating with some sort of fruity stuff like red currant jelly or cranberry sauce.

Don't forget the large glass of red wine to go with it . . .

toss cubes of it with long pasta along with some tasty bits, ie sundried toms, few beans, herbs, some chilli flakes. It melts to coat the pasta like a sauce. Yum.
