So I am about to make lots of chocolate crispies - why do some recipes say just rice crispies and chocolate?

And others say crispies, chocolate and butter and syrup?

I have only ever done the mix melted chocolate with crispies method, but they have to be quite small or they can be a bit solid.

I've only ever put chocolate in. A friend of mine melts mars bars and puts them in, says it makes them nice and chewy. I'm going to try that next time.

If you put something sticky in they are less likely to fall apart when they are carried around in little hands.. just chocolate melts and they fall apart

I made a lot once with syrup (can't remember if it had butter or not) and i didn't like them as they were sort of 'squishy', i like the hard and crunchy sort better.

Depends what you like really.

I am willing to be guided by you experts .

I am making loads of them for 4 and 5 year olds. They will be made now, left in the fridge from now until tmw am, taken into school tmw am and eaten tmw afternoon.

Which method will be best please?

For little ones, go with the ones that stick together well, ie with butter and golden syrup - I just use a big knob of butter, a few tablespoons of golden syrup and a few bars of meleted choc.

Keep in the fridge until the very last minute.

coventgarden · 21/07/2010 11:44

I am worried about them melting. Have you any idea about amounts?

Do I melt the syrup and butter in with the chocolate?

All made.

Not sure they taste very nice.

Chocolate crispie cakes always taste good

I make them with syrup, butter and chocolate, much nicer IMO that just chocolate and rice krispies.

Butterbur · 21/07/2010 12:47

I also put in raisins and chopped glace cherries, so I can pretend they're healthy.

coventgarden · 21/07/2010 12:49

I made them with butter and syrup added but the chocolate hasn't coated all of the rice. They seem to be firming up okay. I have fairy cakes in the oven now. I only have 1 tray so it is taking a while.

I have 48 crispies and cakes now. Just 40 to go.

Yes do add the golden syrup, or butter and sugar melted together and mixed in, they are so much nicer than the rock if you don't use them
75g butter
100g golden syrup
60g plain chocolate, broken into pieces
50g rice krispies

coventgarden · 21/07/2010 12:53

I did 200g of choc, 100g of rice crispies, a good squirt of golden syrup and a knob of butter. I am hoping the kids will like them.

Fairy cakes in the oven now and I am about to knock up some mini muffins.
