Tell me about food processors

I'm looking to buy a food processor, but I don't understand why they seem to start at about forty quid, then shoot in to the hundreds. Have seen this one in Lakeland - what do you think? Anybody got it or got other recommendations?

Magimix magimix magimix.

I've had kenwoods before and they eventually break. The Magimix is more £££ but will last for 20 years at least. Very very sturdy.

Definitely Magimix. The extra cost is all about build quality. A stronger, more powerful motor means the machine will last years whereas a cheaper, weaker motor will burn out quickly and you end up buying either replacement parts or a replacement machine. Food processors one of those items where you really do get what you pay for.

Cheers. I like this red one but maybe it's a bit big and this smaller one would be better.

I have a cheap £36 one - you are what you eat or something - use it most weeks had it 4 years - its still going strong. Its quite big which is good for crumble, pastry, cakes and larger mixes.

I use a Kenwood mini chopper ( £15 ) for smaller stuff like pesto, curry paste, dips etc.

I had a Morphy Richards, the model is no longer made, but it has just broken after 5 years. I am thoroughly unimpressed. My Mum's Kenwood mixer is still going strong after 30 years. Next time round I'll get a Kenwood.

(Eek, I sound like a cheesy advert!)

I've had my magimix for 20 years and it's still going even with the same bowl !
