What do you pack for a picnic

Just an ordinary day out picnic.

My mum always does sandwiches, fruit, cake and I do the same. My sister complained about mum's boring picnics the other day, so now I'm worried mine must be boring too.

I'm having a day out next week with my 2 DC's, a friend and his DS and am now worried about the picnic I offered to bring.

does it matter what your sister thinks? pack things you like to eat!

Yours sounds fine, btw, I just cover all the faves for the ds's and then I eat whatever's left!

Oh FGS! Picnics aren't about hte food, they're about eating outside and playing!

We take a french stick, some humous, mini sausages, frubes, crisps and some sort of fruit or veg - cucumber or strawberries or something. Oh, and one capri sun each, and water for the rest of the day

Always have sausage rolls too.

The FGS was at your sister, not you, btw. Eat what you and your children enjoy eating and don't bother with waht other people think.

Picnics, IMO, are shit if they're hard work for whoever is in charge! I prefer nice easy 'chuck it all in the cool-bag' type picnics.

We have picnics nearly every pleasant weather day in the summer

I just look in the fridge tbh,we have lots of picnics even if we dont go further than the back garden

I like the french stick idea, DC love them. Tear off a bit as they run around kindathing. Also zero prep. Take a pack of cream cheese and some thigns to dip in, carrots, peppers and breadsticks.

I like to make a salad for me. Last week I made one out of veg patch surplus - cooked broad and french beans with a salty vinaigrette, spring onions and lots of herbs. The DC ate a little of it too.

This time of year, strawbs and rasps good. And a homemade cake, precut, takes some beating. Lemon drizzle good for picnics.

Lots of cold water and a flask of very strong coffee for me.
