Dried active yeast in bread machine?

I ordered the wrong yeast from tesco and got dried active yeast (recommended for hand baking it says on the side) rather that the fast yeast. I know the dried active yeast needs activating before use but can I still use it in the bread machine? I have tried to google the answer but don't understand a word of what i have found due to all the different types of terminology to do with baking bread!!

DP accidently bought the dried yeast that's not suitable for use in a bread machine but we didn't realise until we made a few crap loaves.

I'm afraid you need to buy a different one

Thanks for your reply. I had already got all ingredients in bread machine before I found out it was the wrong one so followed instructions to activate it and then put in to see what happens! Am on dough setting as wanted to make some rolls for lunch.

is it little tiny balls? If so you could try activating it in a little warm water and sugar first. That would be my guess!

Yeap..was tiny balls and I did just that and then added to mixture in machine. Heaven knows how it will end up!

I accidentally did this too as I use a breadmaker.

After some experimentation I discoverd it works if I do the following.

Put the dry yeast in the amount of water which is specified in the recipe along with the sugar in a jug.

Make sure the water is fairly warm to the touch about blood heat (not too hot or it will kill the yeast) and give it a really good stir. Leave for 15 minutes to activate. Give it a really good stir again and then pour into the empty breadmaker pan.

I put the water/yeast/sugar mix in first and then drop the flour, salt, oil on top so it mixes properly.

Works just fine.

I make a sponge first:
1 cup water, 1 cup flour, half a tea spoon dried active yeast. mix together and leave in breadmaker for 6-8 hours. then add another cup of water and 500g flour, 1 tea spoon salt 1 table spoon oil. switch on breadmaker.
if you need to leave the sponge for longer (over night) use even less yeast.

Thanks for all your suggestions. My rolls are alright.. Well look ok and I've had a little taste and taste rollish! Think I will try some of your suggestions next time as don't want to waste the yeast I have bought . I got it to save money by baking my own bread more and then I buy the wrong yeast and if I chuck it then I am chucking money away! Thanks again.
