Now I remember why I never bake cakes...........

After some very kind MN'ers found me a scrummy sounding recipe for Chocolate Cake with no eggs, butter or milk in it I duly got it in the oven.

First of all the top of it got burnt (yes the oven was at the right temp) so I had to cut the top off. I made up some icing on iced it and it looked really scrummy.

Just gone to eat some and it's rock hard - and completely inedible to us two (although the boys will probably eat it tomorrow). The annoying thing is that the top of the cake which I cut off is still lovely and soft and edible - even though it's been out in the open since 7pm (I'm not very good at cutting things so cut a larger than nessecary bit off the top ).

DH was really looking forward to some cake (as was I) and it's a complete disastor - and what a complete waste of 'resources' - the cupboards are bare (well apart from a few odds and ends) and I can't even manage to bake a sodding cake.

proud schmoud!!! Can I send you a trowel then?

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 00:21

actually Kid - it as quite funny the other night - DH was at work, I was desperately trying to wash the dishes whiule the boys were still up.

Decided to let them in the kitchen to play - and to let DS2 (he's almost 21 months) wander round without a nappy on for a while - as he gets very wet skin with the swim nappies.

Thought - just to see what would happen - I'd get DS1's old potty out from under the sink (don't ask LOL). He dutifully sat on it, and was quite happy to sit and play. Got up and sat down a few times.

Then he stood up, stepped to one side, squatted down, did a wee, and then sat back down on the potty LOL.

Is there anything we can do?
Just say or hint!

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 00:22

LOL - a trowel would be great - haven't got round to buying any garden stuff yet - and it really needs a good weed

"Is there anything we can do?"

No more than you're doing - feeling a lot happier now than when I sat down here 2hrs ago

LOL, I wonder what he thought he was sitting on it for then! At least he shows signs of knowing when he is doing a wee, just need the next stage now, knowing before he goes!

Gillian76 · 20/08/2005 00:24

We really do want to help, QoQ. Can we send you cakes, if not nappies???

ghost · 20/08/2005 00:24

Are there any decent mother and baby rooms near you? Places like John Lewis, Mothercare, M& S etc are often stocked with nappies, I m sure no one would begrudge you using them until you can get some more.

kid · 20/08/2005 00:25

Or if you have a paypal account, I can make a small donation as I'm not near you to help out.

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 00:25

I reckon he thought it made a more comfortable seat than the cold quarry stone tiles on the floor.

It was the way he squatted down before he wee'ed that cracked me up, especially as he seemed to have got up off the potty to do it.

I'm definately off to bed now, I will check back here in the morning.

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 00:27

Gillian - cakes - nah - once the boys have eaten my "rock cake" tomorrow I don't want to see another cake for a while

Ghost - no M&S, no John Lewis, no Mothercare -

Got a Morrison and a tiny Saisnbury, a big Tesco (undergoing refurbishment so no changing facilities at the moment), and that's about it

Kid - it's ok - honest!

Just needed to 'let it all out' - as all my RL friends are on holiday at the moment so got no-one to share it with [swmil]

lol

Your posts have always made me smile QoQ, and this is no exception - and for all the right reasons - even in your hours of despair!

And so to bed.. my wrinkles are wrinkling.

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 00:36

I guess I should get off to bed too

Thanks everyone - feeling a bit brighter.

When I asked DH why I was so upset over it (try not to let on to him I'm stressed about the money as I know he his and last week he thanked me for being so strong and keeping his spirits up - so got to keep up the pretence for him). anyhow, he kindly reminded me it's probably PMT.........so add PMT onto everything else and cue one QueenOfQuotes who looks like a gibbering wreck,

HUGE {{{hugs}}} QoQ. Just to echo others, if there's owt we can do just shout.

Klara · 22/08/2005 10:46

QofQ - sorry to hear about the cake disaster. Not sure if this comes too late, or whether it has been eaten anyway - But - I had a similar disaster with choccie brownies and my mum had the good idea of adding some milk to them and baking in the overn to make anice gooey kind of brownie bread and butter pudding - which we all scoffed and enjoyed! Think you said you stil had some milk left over......

jac34 · 22/08/2005 11:12

My DS's want to make a chocolate cake today. I'm trying to put them off as I know I'm in the mood to scoff the lot if we do make it.
