Artichokes?

We got two lovely looking globe artichokes in our veg box this week but I have to admit I have never cooked with them . In fact I don't think I have ever tasted one, having decided somewhere along the line that I don't like them.
Does anyone have any foolproof and really tasty ways (to appeal to fussy me and less fussy DCs) of cooking them? Thanks.

The most traditional way of serving them is to boil them.
You then remove the leaves one by one, dip the fleshy ends in melted butter and eat them by scraping off the soft fleshy part with your teeth and discarding the rest of the leaf.
You won't want to eat the very outer leaves as they are likely to be quite tough.
You keep going until you have eaten all the leaves and reached the central heart.
Remove the hairy fibres and eat the heart with a knife and fork, again with butter as a dressing.
They make an excellent starter, one per person depending on the size.

We grow them on our allotment and I find that I have to boil them for longer the later in the season it is. 15 minutes seems to be about right at the moment.
