Flouncers' corner

MN is no longer for feminists

I'm done here. I used to love MN and felt the feminist boards were a safe space for reasonable discussion. I've now had two comments deleted for breaking talk guidelines and can't in any way see why. I was not unkind, I was respectful, I didn't use inflammatory language. But no, the MN thought police took issue with something. I will never know what.

So sod this for a game of soldiers. I am so done with this site.

I've had posts deleted in the feminism chat. At this point, I'm indifferent to it

gingersplodgecat · 01/07/2022 09:50

I hid that topic several years ago. Trying to have a reasonable discussion had become pointless.

It's a sad day when women's rights can no longer be defended.

you could always ask 🤷🏻‍♀️

onlywhenidream · 01/07/2022 10:18

There are usually ways to word what you need to say without falling foul of the activists who would actually be delighted if people stop using the feminist boards

MNHQ don't want to be taken to court especially if it's something they could lose

So don't go

Ask mnhq what exactly was wrong and alter your posting style

Eg if they say generalisation then instead of saying transpeople do :x say some transpeople ...

Lacedwithgrace · 01/07/2022 10:32

I've given up on the feminist boards. It always turns into a transphobic argument and I hate to see the internalised misogyny that makes women fight other women on there.

Libre2 · 01/07/2022 10:33

Shame. We need more feminists to stick around.

SquirrelSoShiny · 01/07/2022 10:52

Yes don't go. This space really matters which is exactly why TRA and MRA types target it. So, stay. Hold the line.

PlanetNormal · 01/07/2022 10:55

‘Safe space’ 🙄

Grow up, dear. Not everyone has to agree about everything. It’s called being an Shultz.

Being a what?

Never heard of that term, sorry.

Far too sensible!!

why ask when you can create a drama flouncing??

blacksax · 01/07/2022 11:36

And as if by magic...

DrDetriment · 04/07/2022 11:18

I did ask them and apparently using the word 'mutilation' for a young girl removing healthy breast tissue for mental health reasons is considered deeply offensive.

And I was not aware I was 'creating a drama' by flouncing. I thought that was what flouncers' corner was for. I have no issue with people disagreeing with me on any board, including the feminist ones. What I took issue with was MN openly supporting a trans activist position through the policing of language, rather than remaining neutral, even though gender critical beliefs are reasonable and a protected characteristic.

I think MN is treading a very fine line, and the fact that it is annoying both sides shows what a difficult position they are in. But at least MN allows these discussions to take place and indeed has provided a dedicated board, many people would prefer that certain issues were not discussed at all.

CrossStichQueen · 04/07/2022 11:33

How can you call yourself a feminist then choose to call other women Feminazis?

IANAL · 04/07/2022 11:34

The use of the word 'feminazi' on a feminist board is what's boggling my mind this morning.

RockinHorseShit · 04/07/2022 11:35

Very easily. Feminism is about equality, not bigotry

That is clearly biased. While some people may well find the word 'mutilation' in this context deeply offensive, no one has the right not to be offended.
I'm reporting this post to MNHQ, OP, so I can make this point to them. Will be interested to see what they come back with.

GreenWhiteViolet · 04/07/2022 11:38

There's only one type of person I've seen call women 'feminazis' online and describe them as 'spewing' instead of speaking or writing.

Language can tell you a lot about someone.

CrossStichQueen · 04/07/2022 11:39

Very easily. Feminism is about equality,

Feminisim is about females. It is about ensuring that all females have equal opportunity to access education, healthcare, employment, safety, rights everything that males take for granted.
So how does that make calling feminists feminazis justified?

Clymene · 04/07/2022 11:42

Unfortunately deletions happen on reporting and some people find the truth very offensive. I have also been deleted for the same thing.

RockinHorseShit · 04/07/2022 11:44

@CrossStichQueen I think you need to educate yourself. Starting with a dictionary. Have a nice life. I'm done now, this shit bores me to tears

DrDetriment · 04/07/2022 11:44

I had two posts that got deleted. The offensive word in the second case was using the word 'castration' to describe a trans woman's removal of their healthy testicles and penis. MN reply below. I refuse to change my use of reasonable and correct/non sweary/non offensive language to fit a political agenda.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting in touch.

To explain why your post was deleted: we'll generally delete 'castration' to describe surgery for transgender people. While we accept it's a recognised term for a surgical procedure, it also has a historical (and some present-day) form as a mandated procedure, either forced or coerced. We believe there are ways to express objection to the surgery without using this term.

I don't think it's a biased term. It represents one view point, and those who disagree with its use represent another view point. Why can't we discuss our viewpoints without being deleted?
