Being asked to pay as a guest to a baby shower

My youngest daughter has been invited to a baby shower in November for the sister of a close friend of hers. She's been asked to pay £10 non refundable deposit and £15 on the day. She's a new mum herself- my grandson is 5 weeks old but am I the only one who thinks this is way out of order? My eldest daughter and I paid for our baby shower in June - and no one was asked to contribute to my stepdaughters which was yesterday. Is it acceptable?

I didn't have a baby shower - really not comfortable with the grabby-ness of this type of event (didn't have a engagement party either) and I wouldn't pay to go to someone elses.

I was once invited to a baby shower at a posh London hotel. It was £50 a head. There was a
List of thing she wanted. Like at a wedding. I believe goody bags handed out at the end to all who attended.

I didn't go

Didn't have a shower myself. When my baby was born, people were very generous anyway.
