Murky pond water - OK or not?

We have a garden pond which we inherited. We've recently given away all of the gold fish (that could be caught ) so that we can stop using the fountain. Since then we've had healthy growth in water lillies and we also have flag iris, water soldiers and marsh marigolds. We have toads and newts, dragon flies, water boatmen. So far so good.

Earlier this year we had blanket weed so I treated that but now the water is definitely not clear, it's a dark green/brown and you can't see much of what's under the surface. Can anyone advise if that's OK, or if I need to do anything - I haven't a clue how to look after a pond, want to encourage wildlife and I'm perfectly happy for the pond to be green but not if it's unhealthy for the pond. All the books / websites talk about bright green algae etc but that's not my issue. Any advice appreciated.

Buy some water fleas -can’t remember the proper name-and pond snails. They help keep the water clear, and get some oxygenating plants. That will stop the blanket weed & encourage the wildlife to continue visiting.

that will beanalgae bloom due to residue nutrients from fish feed and poo.

rake out the algea and leave if by the side of the pond for a few hour do that pond dwellers can crawl back into thd water.
consider running the pump a few hours a day to oxeginate the water.

Algae. It's always worse in summer, due to all the plant growth, but should clear up in the autumn. Cut away any dead plants to stop them rotting in the water.

Great, thanks all! Good to know. I can sort it with more confidence now.
