Holiday food for fish

Hi! I'm looking online at the weekend/holiday food for tropical tanks but the reviews range from awful to wonderful. Can anyone recommend food that would be good for a week, for a tank made up of mainly platys and neon tetras? The main ones seem to be tetra or King British solid white blocks. I currently feed them flakes every few days. Thanks.

Can't recommend a food but have you tried an auto feeder? We've previously used one for a few weeks. Need to test of course but it has worked!

I saw the auto feeders but we have a lid on the tank so don't think we could fit one on.

@Sofasogood1 Which auto feeder do you have?

Can't remember what it's called and currently can't find but it was white from an aquarium shop thing in a garden centre if that helps! We have a lid too. Maybe DP just lifted the feeding flap and put it there??

DP says put the lid slightly ajar to one side and if you have big fish that might butt it weight it down with a book. He says the blocks are a bit rubbish. Definitely trial it for a few days while you're at home.

If it's for a week I wouldn't bother, they'll be fine. The feeder blocks just pollute the tank.

Thanks @Jdiosmio94 I've done a trial run with the tetra weekend sticks. They were fine for a week, no problems with the water. I did notice that my harlequins and neon tetras didn't go near the food for the whole 7 days...but were absolutely fine! So I think you're right, they can go longer than you think. Thank you.

Any healthy setup will contain enough algae and micro organisms to sustain fish for a few weeks without food.

The longest I've gone with no feeding is three weeks to no detriment whatsoever.
