Finally setting up my 6 foot tank today. I won't be stocking it for a few weeks whilst it all settles.

I've already got a mature 4 ft community tank looking lovely.

I can't decide whether to go for something similar, or just have a few larger fish.

Dd really wants discus, I'm not adverse to the idea, but our water is soft and I'd rather keep things simple. As much as I'd like to have fire eels, I don't think I have the time for them.

So, tropical, freshwater, soft water fish suggestions please.

I love a shoal, I love a pair of oscars, I love something a bit unusual, I mainly want a happy tank.

And whilst I'm planning I can pretend money is no object Grin

I'm pretty sure discus are soft water. They're less fragile from a good breeder, I understand, than a shop.

Any tetras will appreciate soft, preferably acidic, water - Congo tetras are stunning. If you'd prefer a massive shoal of teeny fish (IMO can look amazing in a big tank) green neons or black neons both lovely species. Blue/purple emperor tetras are lovely too.

Personally I love fancy plecos. I have an L201 atm but in a 6ft tank I'd be looking at sultan, green/blue phantom, sunshine, or one of the other gorgeous plecos.

Oh, and some corys. A nice big shoal. My favourites are Peru gold stripe, sterbai, Venezuelan black, or adolfoi.

I'd have rainbow tank, don't look like much when they are small but when they are fully grown they look amazing. And some pictus catfish!

I've always fancied a really large shoal of something like neon tetras. I think that would look amazing in a 6 foot tank. Unfortunately I live in a first floor flat so tank that big not really practical.
