First tester kit results!

I have finally got my master tester kit and just tested the tank. I found the PH levels hard to see as the colours are very similar! I THINK that was reading at 7.
The ammonia, nitrate and nitrite were 0.

I still just have three danios in a 90 L tank. They have been in there 2-3 weeks now. The slightly larger Danio is often chasing the others. Am I ok to get 2 or 3 more Danios in the next day or so? I would like around 7 or 8 so they are in a big enough group to be happy (although these three don't seem to be scared of us!)

Well, the ammonia and nitrIte levels are right. Bit weird that the nitrAte is zero- have you also tested your tap water for nitrAte? A pH of 7 sounds about right, and it'll be fine for danios.

You need to have a quarantine tank ready before you can add more danios. It doesn't have to be set up all the time- you can just have a spare filter running in the main tank and then use a storage box to quarantine the new fish. I know it's a pain in the arse, but this will stop any diseases coming in and wiping out your stock.

Thanks.
I will test the tap water later and check the tank water again.
I have the little tank still that they were in originally so will use that as a quarantine tank. I have kept the smaller filter going next to the bigger one in the new tank so will use that.

I am thinking of getting three Danios and maybe two more another time. And then stopping. Does that sound ok?

I would just get as many as you want all at once, a couple of danios won't make a huge difference to the tank. You'll need to keep an eye on the levels when you add new fish anyway. Then you won't need to go through the faff of quarantining two lots of fish.

Right I have tested nitrate again and it's 0. Also tested tap water and that's 0 too. Is that bad? I assumed its because I don't have many fish in a big tank? My booklet says the lower the better but not exact numbers

It's not bad and it's probably due to low fish numbers. You would expect to see a nitrAte level but if your stock level is very low and you have plants then it can be very low, almost zero. It should always be kept below 40ppm (the lower, the better) and since your tap water nitrAte is zero then this should be pretty easy to do.

That's a relief! Thanks for all your help. I am planning on having six or seven Danios for now. I am not (as you can probably tell) completely confident with looking after the water, so I want to settle into it with not many demands on the water and once I am a bit more confident with what I am doing we might get a small shoal of something else.
