Hi we have had Mr Fish a goldfish for 8 years and we love him v much. I noticed during week he had what looked like cotton wool on both sides of top fin and he was not as energetic. I went to pets at home and they tested aquarium water and they said was perfect and gave me solution to put in for fungal infection. Since putting in, mr fish seems to have got weaker. Is there anything else i can do??

I wouldn't trust pets at home to tell water from tea tbh- I'd get your own water test kit so you can tell what's going on. How big is the tank? When did you last clean the filter? Is this what his fin looks like? What treatment did they sell you?

Its i love fish anti bacteria and fungus. He is in a small tank on his own. I clean filter every week. I put in 2.5ml of the solution. I have just checked him n he v weak and not managing to swim. I think he is dying

No his fin is intact but looks like 2 white balls of fluff on each side

How small is small? Goldfish need tons of room and if the tank is small then the water quality may not be up to scratch. You could do a large water change, that might help perk him up a bit. How do you clean the filter?

I clean filter in the water from tank. Should i do water change if added the treatment solution? He is v weak. Pets at home tested for nitrates n amonnia n all was ok

Did they give you the exact readings? Did they test for anything else or just ammonia and nitrate?

MeAndMyGirl · 07/11/2013 22:32

They tested for 4 things but not sure all what they were. He is now vertical in water. As soon as put the treatment in water he has become unwell.

Been doing some googling. Should i give him peas?

Have you tried a swim bladder treatment and stress reliever, all the changing of water could be stressing him out.
Also he could be constipated from dried food, sounds daft but I have been in your shoes, only feed him frozen food like bloodworms and see if that helps.
My fish is similar age to yours but I thought I was going to loose him a few years ago, similar issues to you, frozen bloodworms always make him better.
Good luck

Aw, you are doing all you can :(

Water changes won't stress a fish out if done properly with water of the same pH and temperature. Poor water quality will stress him out a lot more. You really need a test kit to find out what's going on. How big is the tank exactly?

You could try peas, if he's constipated then that will get things shifted. Just give the squished inside part, not the skin, and then don't feed for 24 hrs.

Good luck.

Mr Fish is still alive. V poorly. He is at bottom of tank but I do think he is a tiny bit better.

I did water change and will try peas.

Fingers crossed
