Pregnant sword tail??

Bought some new fish today (after my water tested perfect for a week), I got some mollies and swordtails as needed something to brighten up the tank, 2 of the sword tails are orange and white so I can clearly see that one is pregnant, how do I know how long she has to go, i'm sure I can see eyes Smile so could she pop soon? how many fry do they have?

I never trap my pregnant fish (after losing a molly to stress last year) so will the fry be ok in my community tank if there are lots of hiding places? I can put them in a net if I can get to them before they get eaten.

Depends on the age of the fish, they tend to have more fry the more pregnancies they have. You'll find if you leave them in the tank with all the othe fish that most will get eaten, if you want to breed them properly you should set up a secondary tank that the mother can be placed in to, birth, and then popped back in to the main tank. This way the fry won't get eaten and they will be able to feed (liquifry for livebearers or tiny livefoods are best). But tbh your local fish shop should not be placing male and female fish in the same tanks for resale, it's quite bad practice.
Tiny fish are super cute, so I hope yours do well Smile

Thank you, I have had guppy and mollie fry but never sword tails, they were in a tank with males but I just have females, chances are all 4 are pregnant but once they have had fry I don't plan on breeding them ( I won't be buying any males ), I used to have a fry tank but got rid of it, I might keep an eye out for another one.
