I finally rehomed my goldies to a pond and got myself some neon tetras yesterday. They seem to be doing really well and i'm a bit obsessed with them. Whenever i go into the kitchen i count them to make sure they're all there (9) lol.

Im wanting to get some more but think you have to wait a week? Correct me if im wrong. Also i'm wondering what else to get? My tank is a 55 litre. I'd love a betta but wont take the risk of it bullying my neons. I like the look of tiger barbs but dont think they are suitable with neons from what ive read.

I want a colourful fish (whether a schooling fish or not) suited to neons that doesnt look like a goldfish. Any suggestions? Im going to get a cory/plec at some point too to keep the algae down.

sorry to hear about your fish, but well done on doing the fishless cycle. I may be a bit of a nut because I loved doing the cycle on my tank!

Have you done the fishless cycle before? If not you can find out about it here - www.tropicalfishfanatics.com/

Be warned!!! Do NOT be tempted to smell the ammonia, it will rot your nostrils! :)

Its weird because i'm looking forward to it too lol. I've ordered a piece of bogwood and going to get some plants so its all gorgeous for the fish. Do ou recommend putting soil under the gravel to plant the plants in? I've read somewhere that its good for them?

Another quick Q, can you use bottled water to fill the tank? I just thought it would be free of additives etc?? Well i wont be filling the tank with it but i tought i could use it for water changes?

You can get special aquatic plant stuff to go under the gravel. Not all plants need it, but it does make a difference. I've used Laterite and TetraPlant Somethingorother (may not be the exact name Grin) and got good results with both. If you're just growing easy stuff like crypts and amazon swords then I don't think it will make a lot of difference what brand you use.

I also use Flourish Excel (liquid carbon stuff), not just for plants but I heard it was good for getting rid of hair algae and so far it's done the job. It's also made my java moss grow so fast that I can't see my bogwood any more Hmm

Depends on the bottled water, mineral water can be really hard and too high in sodium. Spring water can vary. I'd stick to tap water and if your tap water is too crappy then I'd go with RO water- more expensive but better for your fish. You should be able to buy it in big 10 litre jugs at most aquatic places.
