Hi all im after a bit of help please, I got a 120ltr tank before xmas. All was going on great we then got given a 300 ltr tank 3 days ago. we set it all up ready for a fishless cycle befor moving our fish across to have the little tank just for guppies and tetras.

Now best laid plans and all that. The 120 ank started to leak so we have had to move all the fish acorss after just one day of a fishless cycle. The water was crystal clear and has now gone cloudy not majourly but it is cloudy.

I tested the water today and teh levels are
Ammonia 0.25ppm
ph 7.0
Nitrate 20ppm
Nitrite 0.25 ppm

I put our filter from the other tank staright in so it does have some old bacteria in it. Is there anything else i can be doing any advice apreciated thanks.

How long was your filter switched off for? If you're just moving everything into a new tank then you don't need to do a fishless cycle because it's the filter that cycles, not the tank. Or are you keeping both tanks, I'm a bit confused Confused.

The cloudiness sounds like a bacterial bloom, it happens sometimes after a big water change or a sudden ammonia spike.

The readings don't look too bad at the moment, not perfect but shouldn't be dangerous.

Hi eaurouge thanks for the reply the filter from the tank that leaked was switched off for seconds as it was taken out of the old tank and put into the new tank.

The new tank also has a fluval external filter as that had been set up ready to run a fishless cycle before putting fish into it.

We were planning on having both tanks running, But due to the smaller one starting to leak we had to transfer everything out of it into the new tank after only 24 hours of cycling.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

So as it stands i dont have to do anything for the new tank with the levels as they are will the tank just clear its elf with regards to the cloudyness?

Ah well, you should be fine then! Switching the filter off for a few seconds shouldn't have harmed the bacteria at all. I would just monitor the levels for a few days to be on the safe side but I wouldn't expect any dangerous levels. The cloudiness will probably disappear in the next day or so.
