Unimpressed with lovefilm

Getting bit peeved with lovefilm - despite being a high user (3 disc at home contract) and sending films back on a regular basis I tend to be getting sent movies low on my priority list. I have 2 films rated 'high' and 6 'medium' on my rental list of 34, and again, today, they are despatching a movie from my low priority choices. I've been hoping to get '2012' for around 6 weeks now, and there have been at least 12 times that I have returned DVDs in that period so 12 potential opportunities to issue it.

Thinking - might rejoin DVD shop down t'road.

Anybody else finding similar issues with lovefilm

No we've always found them great! Maybe you need to add more than 2 films as high priority? I guess the chances of those two being available aren't very high?

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 27/05/2010 13:32

Yes, I got moved to them from Amazon who imho were better but stopped doing it. With Amazon you rated your titles from 1-20 or however many you had. They would sen you the top one available. Better than just having 3 catagories of low, med, high.

Well of course there will be a wait for the newest most popular films to be sent out, everyone else has them on priority too. If you are that keen to see a dvd asap then get it from a rental store.

I have been with them for years now, since they first came out, and ok sometimes you have to wait a bit but surely you'd expect that?

We're just trialling them at the moment, so far, so good. Mainly because my choices have been sent first, not DH's.

We have a lot of films to catch up on though, so mostly our choices are not recent releases.

"I have been with them for years now, since they first came out, and ok sometimes you have to wait a bit but surely you'd expect that? "

Actuall Avad, as I have said, since there have been at least 15 opportunities to send me my highly rated film I would expect that it should have been possible on one of those occasions by now.

sorry - 12 opportunities

but hmc if other people want it too.... ? they can't have bottomless amounts of copies of each movie.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 27/05/2010 16:09

But HMC says there are 8 films in total on her medium and high priority lists. However they've sent one from the low priority list. You'd have thought they should manage to have one of 8 choices available.

I have just cancelled our subscription for the exact same reason as the OP - It just seemed like an awful lot of money for getting films that frankly were nice to see ones as opposed to must see iyswim

southeastastra · 27/05/2010 16:14

i gave up too, i don't think i ever got to see the films i really wanted to!

btw you can watch lots on youtube (even some obscure ones) i watched 2012 on it ages ago you aren't missing much

ant3nna · 27/05/2010 16:24

With the blockbuster online service you can have a film from the store once a month so if there is anything you really want to see as it comes out you can bypass the waiting list.

I got rid of lovefilm after they sent me the bonus disc for a film I'd already seen. When I phoned to complain, they tried to tell me that people liked receiving the bonus discs instead of the film.

Very .

Now they keep sending me junk mail trying to woo me back!

hmc · 27/05/2010 20:50

Well I am sticking with them for the moment since I had a bit of moan and they are sorting it....but they are deffo on 'probation' now! - particularly since some of you have experienced similar problems

I've been with them for five years (originally as Amazon) and think they are not quite so good at the moment. I think that's partly because they have expanded so much recently. However if you're getting films you're not keen to watch, why are they on your list anyway? You can also have multiple lists which can help.

Where I think their strength lies is in how much you can watch for free online. Not only is there loads of stuff I want to watch, there is shedloads of kids stuff and its ad free. My DD (5) loves watching Pippi Longstocking and all the old Bugs Bunny stuff. For £100 a year, I think it represents good value especially compared to cable.
