Thank You for Smoking
Grosse Point Blank
King of California

I know I'm missing some as my brain is in desperate need of coffee.

Do we think Sideways is quirky? Its funny and intelligent and doesn't star mainstream actors

thumbwitch · 31/01/2010 11:40

ah yes, Sideways was on my list too Cyb - I just forgot it in the effort of remembering the others

SixtyFootDoll · 31/01/2010 11:45

Love Napoleon Dynamite
Donnie Darko
Little Miss Sunshine
Anything by the Coen brothers esp Fargo
Wild at Heart

OMG Up the Junction is brill!

I like British films that portray snippets of daily life. This Happy Breed is so good for that and Life is Sweet (more domesticity).

That'll Be the Day with young David Essex is good.

Others I like are
Raising Arizona
Badlands
Whats Eating Gilbert Grape

I just want to stay in and watch dvd's for a month now!

hobbgoblin · 01/02/2010 09:34

I just watched Pan's Labyrinth last night - that was quirky to me, and good once I got into it.

Bit though

LetThereBeRock · 01/02/2010 17:42

How exactly do we define quirky?

thumbwitch · 02/02/2010 12:51

I would define it as non-mainstream, with a plot that isn't standard, or a subject that is unusual in film-world. so, no standard thrillers. horrors, romances, comedies, rom-coms, dramas, biogs, historicals etc.

But that's just my definition

what about Heathers ? I suppose it would be a black comedy but I still think it was quite quirky...

Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael ?

Garden State (love love love it, not a bad soundtrack either)

Juno
World's fastest Indian

Just remembered, i need to put donnie darko on the thread of films you can watch over and over!

LoveTheCarbs · 06/02/2010 20:01

I loved Leon. Totally forgot about it!

Also loved Before Sunrise, Juno, Pan's Labyrinth and Heathers. Thought Juno was edging towards mainstream and that's why I didn't put it in my list, but I wonder if I thought that because it was so popular.

I love quirky films. Nothing better than watching a film for it to surprise you with it's greatness.

notnowbernard · 06/02/2010 20:02

I love the original 'Hairspray' (John Walters one)
