What a fantastic film. I watched it with both my kids (who wouldn't normally touch a subtitled film with bargepole) and we were all enchanted. FAB.

I saw it last year I think and it is brilliant, glad your children enjoyed it too. Did you know that the teacher subsequently asked for more money because the film was a success? I can see his point of view but still.....

Heathcliffscathy · 10/06/2005 14:20

THIS FILM SHOULD BE COMPULSORY VIEWING FOR ALL TEACHERS, PEOPLE WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND MUMSNETTERS...sorry for shouting. it's a gorgeous film, and has so many things to take from it...

Janh · 10/06/2005 16:23

It is lovely. Never occurred to me to have the kids watch it!

Marina · 10/06/2005 16:31

Really lovely, one of my all-time favourites, although there are some searingly sad moments in it. I've always wanted to see Tavernier's film on a related theme (called Ca Commence Aujourd'hui I think) - based heavily on his son-in-law's experiences of teaching children in an impoverished small-town environment.
Have always loved the Auvergne in a sentimental way

jackeroo · 18/06/2005 20:41

i can't wait to see this - have always meant to. it's on BBC2 at 10.30pm tomorrow night...

Oh I just got all excited when I read Jackeroo's post then I read the date .. I saw it at the cinema when it first came out and would love to see it again, an absolutely brilliant film

southeastastra · 03/12/2008 17:03

aDad · 03/12/2008 17:05

fab film. Didn't know it was on.

southeastastra · 03/12/2008 17:07

it's repeated three times this week on teacher's tv (if you have it!)

aDad · 03/12/2008 17:07

Never heard of teachers' TV - that's probably why.

aDad · 03/12/2008 17:07

will scan my channel list! ta

Sunshinesmith · 03/12/2008 17:12

The sour note of that film was that the teacher sued the filmmakers for profits of the box office.

Fame got to the head of the teacher! Poor lamb!

cremolafoam · 03/12/2008 17:13

Oh i thought that film was superb. It was so thoughtful, gentle and wonderfully filmed. It actually inspired my sister to keep on with her classroom assitant training. i have it on tape and I often try and imagine how those beautiful children are doing.

southeastastra · 03/12/2008 17:30

he lost the case but i was reading that the 11 children were going to court to try and get payment from the film too, though can't find anything else about it online.
