took 6 year old dd today with ds2 ( 12 with sn )and they both loved it.
the 3D is fab - really works ( having endured Fly Me To The Moon I was very relieved!)
It isn't laugh out loud fab, nor as emotionally engaging as some of the Pixar films but it moves along and there are some good lines and very funny moments. Great kids action scenes.

dietstartstomorrow · 08/02/2009 17:08

oohh sounds fun.

We got out 'Fly me to the Moon' last week, was bad was'nt it. We got so fed up with the 3D after 20 minutes and switched to normal viewing.

My boys are 9 and 11. Will they enjoy it? We could do with a half term family film, and I haven't been inspired by anything I've seen on offer.

Ronaldinhio · 15/02/2009 20:04

We got it for dd1's 2nd bd on Friday.
We've seen it 6 times since!!
Her first words each morning are "wanna see Bolt"
She understands that there are bad boys in it, that Bolt get sad and that it is all good at the end.
She loves it and I don't hate it.

fishie · 15/02/2009 20:05

where did you get it from?

stephla · 15/02/2009 20:09

I think it would work for any age (unless they are very serious). It works there's a bit of everything (comedy, action, cuteness etc) My son (4) enjoyed it but I am not sure if he really understood it all. He said it wasn't scary though (compared with Scooby Doo which is too scary, apparently).

Ronaldinhio · 15/02/2009 20:14

downloaded from the internet
excellent quality but still

Jux · 15/02/2009 20:23

Which do you think two 9/10yo girls would prefer? Bolt or Moonacre - dd wants to see both with her bf, but we can only afford one.

NinaNannar · 15/02/2009 20:24

very naughty.
Rosin my 10 year old liked it( boy) and wept a little at the almsot sad bit.
Its deffo more upscale than toy story etc

dearprudence · 15/02/2009 22:20

LOVED Bolt, but would definitely recommend seeing a 3D screening. As DS (6) said, "It looks real!!". Plenty of jokes and references for the adults, and laugh-out-loud funny for children. One of the few films I've seen where the whole cinema burst out laughing in several places. The pace slows down a little in places, but overall it's a real experience, and the 3D animation is fascinating.

We felt like clapping at the end.

zigzagzebra · 17/02/2009 17:01

Anyone know why this is a PG, not a U? Am thinking of taking my tribe to see this this half term, but youngest is 3. Do you think it's OK for a normal 3 year old, or are there scary bits?

wideratthehips · 17/02/2009 17:06

emotional bits?????

i'm 36 wks pregnent and taking ds1 (4) and friend (girl 5) will they be blubbing or is it just going to be me????

dietstartstomorrow · 18/02/2009 15:20

I took 5 children to see it today (8,6,4,4 & 3)..... they all loved it.

It has lot's of action, really funny, and a couple of emotional-ish bit's.

Great film.

dietstartstomorrow ... did you take them to the 3d or 2d viewing? am taking ds on saturday for his 4th birthday treat ... am thinking of the 2d viewing as am not sure he will like the idea of things coming out of the screen at him - that and keeping the glasses on for that length of time!

dietstartstomorrow · 18/02/2009 17:18

Our local one was only doing the 2D, so we saw that. My 4y/o would probably enjoy the 3D version.

I would quite like to take my 2 again, to see the 3D version (3 of the one's I took today, I child-mind).

I'm not sure why it's a PG. The TV show within the film includes a lot of scenes where the little girl is in danger and Bolt has to rescue her, so it could be this. Also, she and Bolt get into some real danger near the end.

The 3D effect isn't freaky, by the way - just exciting.

JackieNo · 18/02/2009 22:57

So which do you reckon - Bolt or Hotel for Dogs, for a 5 year old and 2 9 year olds?

JackieNo · 18/02/2009 22:57

(that's two 9-year-olds, not 29 year olds )

SoupDragon · 19/02/2009 13:01

We've just been and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly couldn't get to a 3d showing though. May well try to find a 3D one to see it again

I'd guess it's PG because of the violent deaths in the opening sequence.

(I'd go for bolt although I've not seen Hotel for Dogs)

fruitshootsandheaves · 19/02/2009 21:24

Went to see Bolt 3D today with
DD(15)!
DS and friend (13)
DD2 (11)
DS2 (7)
and Dh
we all really enjoyed it even DD who wasn't really looking forward to it. We both laughed so hard at one point we were virtually crying.
Very good and the 3D was excellent. Thoroughly recommend it.

JackieNo · 19/02/2009 21:25

Excellent - have booked to go and see it in 3D tomorrow.

hockeypuck · 21/02/2009 10:45

3D is totally worth the extra pound or two per ticket. I haven't seen 3D since Jaws 3D in the dark ages which was iirc about 2 minutes of rubbish 3D. This was amazing. The whole film had a depth to it that even when they weren't doing anything funky with the 3D like sticking things out of the screen, it had a lot of depth that the animations seemed more real. Good film too, I laughed at bits and nearly cried too.

I initially didn't like the hamster character, then he grew on me with a great set of one-liners:

"Ring Ring, Who's calling? It's destiny. I've been expecting you!"

JackieNo · 21/02/2009 12:26

Yes - it was 'awesome' . Loved it. The 3D was really jaw-dropping.
