Madgascar 2 or Despereaux: either of them any good?

Want to take my 5 yr old DS to the flicks next week, both these films have had mixed reviews from the critics, but what do your children think?

Madagascar is PG - too much for a 5yr old?

Went to the preview of 'Despereaux'. Dd loved it . It is so cute and a perfect movie for little ones (oh and I enjoyed it too).
Just love the little details, like how the front gate of the mouse family is a button, and the window is a side-ways keyhole. And Despereaux's sword is actually a needle!

Haven't seen Madagascar, but given the choice, would rather see Despereaux

I loved madagasgar, as did my 6yo and 3 yo. Can't remember any scary bits, or why it would be a pg, but we all thought it was fab. Haven't seen desperaux.

DD1 saw madagasgar with her aunt and loved it, I took her to see Despereaux and although nice didn't hold her attention as much

Took my 5 year old today to see Madagasgar - she didn't like it and has been up crying twice since she went to bed and each time it has been about this film - I could be in for a long night. Had my 7 year old there too and she really enjoyed it. 5 year old is sensitive and didn't like the parts where animals were being naughty - to put it in her words.

My dc (12 and 4) saw Mad 2 last week and both loved it.

DS who is 8 (8 FGS) insisted on being taken to Madagascar. There is nothing much to scare a 5yo IMO but it was yawnsome beyond belief for the adult ...

Well I loved both with my boys - aged 7/5. Madagascar is great. Despereaux could be scary because of the rats depending on the sensitivity of the child, but the movie's nowhere near as dark or scary or sad as the book. And I would definitely recommend Bedtime Stories when it gets to the UK - I laughed out loud at that one and my ds1 asked immediately to go and see it again straight away .
