Inkheart - Anyone seen this yet? I've not read the book

Monday is my Movie day, so I'm deciding what film to watch. Having looked through the trailers for the movies this afternoon at my local cinema, Inkheart looks like it may be good.

As I have not read the book, I will not be seeing it with a picture already in my mind of the characters, locations etc.

Anyone seen this yet... is it a recommended watch?

can't help - we're going tomorrow, but a quick bump for you.

I've read the book, as has 13 yo dd, the book was a great adventure story for people who like books, string female characters and a little bit of magic. hope you enjoy it.

We loved it! Dd (13) has read it and said it was completely different from the book but still brilliant. Ds (7 but very wimpy) was a bit scared and had to sit on a lap for some of it but still loved it, and DP and I enjoyed it too. Probably I enjoyed it more because of Paul Bettany with no clothes on....

string female characters? betty spaghetti?!

Thanks all... I went to see it this afternoon. I enjoyed it. Were not many in the cinema, those who were there were all I'd say pre-teen/early teen and accompanying adults. I was only adult going on my own.

Loved it! Paul Bettany was wonderful. My ds2 really liked it as well.

....took the urchins (11, 9, 7 and 7) to see this last week.

We are regular visitors to Monsieur Lumiere's magic lantern show, so the urchins are hardened and harsh critics.

Inkheart was splendid. We had not read the book, so were not encumbered by expectation. It looks great, and has just the right mix of humour, mystery and menace. It was that great rarity, a proper 'family' film.

...in contrast, we had seen The Tale of Despereaux a few days earlier. It was dreadful. If you have seen the trailer, then you have seen every intelligible part of this film. Its plot is so tortuous that I struggled to follow it. As the film lacked humour or charm, the urchins were simply bored...

...over the next few days I have to face the horror that is Bedtime Stories. For some reason the urchins have been charmed by the trailer. I fear I will succumb to their pleadings....

Going to see Bedtime Stories too... but then I have a thing for Adam Sandler so it shouldnt be too painful!

why did all the bus adverts for the movie have no picture of Paul Bettany? Or if they did, I couldn't spot him? I found it very disappointing!

I feel like a movie tonight - now I just have to see if I can convince DP that Inkheart or Twilight are the way forward. He likes his movies more hardcore than that.

We - me, dh, ds1 (11) and ds2 (9) - all enjoyed this today. Only ds1 has read the book.

Think Paul Bettany would make a wonderful Doctor! Never actually thought about him for the part, but he has that touch of sadness as well as the quirkyness required for a good Doctor.
