This is a superb film.

Directed by Ben affleck and starring his brother Casey alongside Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris.

Basically, a private investigator on child kidnapping case in Boston.
here

But oh I liked this a lot! It was an excellent adaptation, outstanding direction(and surprising for a debut) and with some fab acting.

Kinda disturbing psychologically in places and dark. But also a generally good, well produced film.

Can you tell I enjoyed it?

God, I thought this was really dark and quite disturbing. Quite a good dilemma to think about at teh end. Affleck's girlfriend in it seemed completely pointless though.

Great acting etc but can't say I "enjoyed" it.

S1ur · 03/10/2008 23:29

Yes gf was a token I think, though added a bit of angsty stuff.

No 'enjoyed' definitely, in filmic terms and as a great movie. But oh yes, I did cry was moved.

(I think I made that word up, hmm filmic. nah. seems like a made up word. or possibly something poncey. proabably just meant. film.)

don't really like things like that. Do they get her back in the end?

Tinker · 03/10/2008 23:32

SPOILER**

She doesn't die

cornsilk · 03/10/2008 23:33

might watch it then

S1ur · 03/10/2008 23:38

Corny there is one. erm actually horrid bit that involves a child. Nothing to see, but it is v sad.

Otherwise. all adult and about the investigation, and other stuff.

Just one. And I think doesn't sully the film.

But you should know.

It was that bit that got me crying emotionally. But it is way at the end and not to do with main plot iyswim.

Thanks slur - may not watch it then.

AbstractMouse · 03/10/2008 23:43

God I really have to watch this, I loved Dennis Lehanes' books, I kind of watched it but was mumsnetting distracted at the time. Can't understand why they didn't make darkness take my hand first though, such a good book, and they could have made it a series.

S1ur · 03/10/2008 23:45

Fair enough. It IS excellent though and not gruesome (child wise) and brilliant. But yes. I guess avoid if you are feeling, more empathic.

I still recommend with all previous provisos.

Oh yes, the horrid bit is especially horrid. That's what made me feel a little sullied after watching this.
