Thought it was amazing and can't stop thinking about it. Superb acting, beautifully filmed. DD2 12 had to leave before the final five minutes cos she was so distressed but still says she's glad she saw it and wants to read the book. DD1 (nearly 15), has read it and thought it was brilliant - less sensitive than little sis but still struggled with it.

Hi all
My DD 17 had already read the book before she saw the film. ven though she knew what to expect she was very upset and tearful and actually watching the scene at the end.

both myself and my DD 15 had not read the book and were both in tears by the end of the film.

We all found the film very emotional and upsetting. I understand the truth behind all of these films but do wonder why they feel the need to turn them into stories for films.

I have youbger children and would not allow them to watch this film as emotionally they would struggle. I also would recommend not watching the film before bed like we did as all 3 of us could not get off to sleep.

My ds1 wants to watch this tonight on bt vision. He has become obsessed with watching it after he saw it listed, because a boy in his class has been reading the book. He is 10 (yr6). He knows about WW2 and holocaust and I know he'll be emotionally ok watching this as he can detach himself iykwim. He watched the Anne Frank BBC series last year.

However, I have ds2 who is 8 (yr4). He is much more emotional in his responses to books and films, well, to life in general. They tend to do things together and ds1 has been promised he can watch it this evening. My gut instinct tells me ds2 shouldn't see this. Have any of you let your 8 almost 9 year olds see this? Blardy laptop has packed up so I can't bribe him with watching a film in his bed!

Dh is working, so I can't get him to entertain ds2.

I let dd watch it tonight. Shes 9 and although she hasn't read the book (I hadn't heard of it before) shes read a lot about WW2 and has a general understanding of the holocaust.

tbh I don't think she was old enough because although she understood the facts about what had happened she didn't really empathise with it. In fact, I had tears running down my face and she gave me a cuddle and told me not to think of it.

We did talk about how all people are the same and the two boys were just boys, both equal and how both deaths were equally sad. That did make her think for a bit.
