Can anyone recommend any films as spooky as the first Conjuring movie?

Oujia: Origin of Evil. Much better than the film it sequels.

wasn’t expecting much but it was great!

The Others really scared me.
As did Sinister.
The Mothman Prophecies really stayed with me for a long time afterwards - sometimes less is more.
I found Event Horizon terrifying.
Hated Hereditary - regret ever watching it.

The first Paranormal Activity really frightened me to the point I couldn't sleep for a few weeks, if that's the kind of thing you're looking for . Sinister was also really creepy.

Forgot one of the best: Night of the Demon (1957)

I didn't mention Hokum because it's a recommendation thread and I thought it was pretty poor. YMMV though

Have you seen any of the other British/Irish ones I suggested? Censor, Men, Saint Maud, She Will, Wake Wood?

Have just remembered Possum as well, which was quite unnerving at times.

I've seen all of them bar Wake Wood; I didn't like Censor (and I really wanted to) or Men, I loved St Maud, I barely remember She Will.

I thought Possum was terrifically scuzzy, even if it did make me feel like I needed a bath 😂

I enjoyed The Hallow, The Canal and In Fear, if anybody's looking specifically for Irish films

Have you tried Mama , it’s a great film about 2 little girls abandoned in a forest and found a few years later , they’ve been looked after by an entity .
It’s one of my favourites .

I really liked She Will. Great cast - Alice Krige & her cheekbones, Malcolm McDowell - & Rupert Everett as the tweedy "wellness" guru! The costume & interior design was fabulous too.

Haven't seen The Canal or The Hallow but will check them out. I quite enjoyed In Fear - it evoked a terrifying feeling of lostness very well.

Wake Wood was a new Hammer Horror production, I seem to remember? I liked it at the time though it's quite a long time since we watched it.

Just found it for free on YouTube! Thanks for the reminder as I've been meaning to watch it. It's a "Del Toro introduces" one.

I thought hereditary was crap, not scary at all.
The Excorsism of Emily Rose scared the hell out of me.

I much prefer the TV version of The Woman in Black original broadcast ITV Christmas Eve 1989
