Toy Story 5

Well I really enjoyed it, and whilst it isn't a patch on the first three it's light years better than the fourth one IMO, and the animation in particular is beautiful. I can imagine exactly what it's like to cuddle Bullseye now I know he's slightly fuzzy ☺️

I'm not sure why Woody was in it at all (and there were so many different plots all happening at once I think he should have been left at heading off into the sunset with Bo at the end of TS4), and I thought the Bonnie-being-miserable bits went on far too long but I liked the new toys and I thought Lilypad was really well done, the platoon of advancing Buzzes made me giggle and the sequences that were supposed to be in Bonnie's imagination while she was playing were lovely.

I laughed out loud several times which is always good, but while there's a couple of emotional bits I was slightly choked up rather than the sobbing mess I was by the end of Toy Story 3 in particular. I'll rate it fourth out of the five, but the first three are so good the bar is set incredibly high.

Has anybody seen it with children? There weren't any in my screening and I'd be interested to know what people who don't remember when the earlier ones came out thought of it.

Edit: I can also report that the woodland creatures in Toy Story 5 are 100% more convincing than the ones in Disclosure Day Grin

Where going next weekend 😁

MrsFionaCharming · 20/06/2026 20:28

I agree with your analysis, though I’d possibly put it above number 3 as well.

I took my 3 year old for his first ever cinema trip and he loved it. So I’m not sure if part of the reason I enjoyed it so much was watching his reaction.

When the Buzzes turned into drones he cheered out loud!

I hope you enjoy it! I also forgot to say to stay until very end, but anybody who's seen other Toy Story films will already know it's unlikely to be over when the credits roll Grin

Ok thankyou we will

The film had a lot of problems, but I think that I liked it slightly better than toy story 4. The first 3 films were so great. 4 and 5 just seem a bit unnecessary really

B9waiting · 22/06/2026 22:31

I saw it tonight & loved it! I shed a tear & clapped when the Buzzes turned into drones! Fab!

Littlecreaturesinthegarden · 24/06/2026 21:32

My kid loved it (because he’s 4!) but I thought it was just ok. It was saved by plenty of fun moments but they were more in isolation than the whole story being anything special. All the Buzzes running about were great even though that part didn’t add much to the overall narrative. They looked so funny marching about together 😁

I’m not convinced by the tech storyline. “Tech is bad but actually it’s alright really in the end.”Well obviously Disney/Pixar will have apps and games and so on that means they can’t say anything else can they? I’d much rather the iPad had been flung in the incinerator from Toy Story 3.

B9waiting · 24/06/2026 22:17

@Littlecreaturesinthegarden I did cheer when the Buzzes took to the sky - Buzz can actually fly! Loved it!

SleepingStandingUp · 24/06/2026 23:15

I'm taking my kids soon, and ehiskt they don't remember the originals coming out, I can confirm we've watched all of them many many times!! Be interesting to see which is their favourites

henlake7 · 25/06/2026 09:06

I missed 4 but I did really like this one. Especially the Buzz army!
It is amazing how seamless CGI looks nowadays.

Not sure how kids will find it though. There were 2 directly in front of me and they couldnt seem to sit still and were pretty distracted throughout (ironically the mum constantly telling them to shush was probably more disturbing then the kids themselves!LOL😆).

Bells3032 · 25/06/2026 09:27

My 4 year old loves all the four previous ones. i think she liked this one but no where near the level she likes the previous 4.

I agree i think a few funny moments really save it. I think there was too much written on screen that wasn't read out which means little ones don't always know what's going on. I don't think she got the cyber bullying storyline at all but that's the innocence of childhood.

It was an enjoyable film...will i be watching it again soon. probably not

Agree with every word, OP! I thought the 4th film was just awful and was so pleasantly surprised by this. Totally entertaining, clever, a few laughs and the emotional bit really got me! I realise, I’m not a Bonnie fan at all, I think the character is a proper weak link somehow. Def not as good as the other 3 for me but so much more like it, a great watch for all the family (my kids loved it, it kept their attention really well).

Supersleepysheepy · 27/06/2026 17:33

We loved it more than any of the others, I think it was just so on point for the times and really well dealt with.

I loved it. As did my older kids. The younger ones, not so much - I think you are right about the writing on the screen, I hadn’t thought of that.

PermanentTemporary · 28/06/2026 20:37

We really enjoyed it. Heard some kid laughs but ironically a young child just in front of us was soon playing a game in his watch, very distractingly.

operationplaytime · 28/06/2026 20:48

We really enjoyed it and found it very funny (went with 12 yr old)
will definitely watch it again once it’s released on Disney plus

ThatPearlSnail · 28/06/2026 23:16

I went with my adult kids who have grown up with Toy Story & Pixar. We all loved it.

The cast, particularly Woody & Jessie, sounding older made me tearful 😥

Love Taylor Swift's song ❤️

Dissenter here sorry! I thought it was dreadful and fell asleep 🤣 Bonnie needed some firm parenting with all the whining and refusing to take the toys back after her mum had driven over. My teens just looked at me at that point 🤣 avoiding spoilers but I’d much rather the drones had gone back to where they ended up, would have been a more charitable outcome.

BestIsWest · 29/06/2026 12:30

Going this afternoon. Glad to hear it’s better than 4. Remember taking DD to see 1 as a four year old when it first came out, her first cinema visit so they always make me feel a bit sentimental.

The Toy Story films were such a huge part of our world and 3 hit me hard! I actually got teary (unexpectedly!) reading your post. I think I'll be a right state when I actually watch it 😄

I agree. Bonnie was being a bit of a brat throughout tbh. Also what were the parents thinking buying her lily pad and then allowing her to have it from dawn until dusk?! No wonder she turned into a dick.

That’s the point of the movie. Plenty of parents do this. I know so many kids who’ve literally been ruined by bloody iPads. I didn’t like the ending as it didn’t go far enough for me but, as I said earlier, Disney/Pixar have apps and games to sell so they can’t send the message that iPads are all bad for kids. I guess it’s hard to fling an anthropomorphic iPad into a rubbish incinerator as well… bit much for a kids’ movie. I’m unimpressed to see toy merchandise of the Lily Pad “character”. It all leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
