I wanted to really like it and was hopeful especially after the new Avengers film but this was dull and disappointing without much of a story. The cast were good but meh.

Ah was it not good. I liked the last version and obviously remember watching the cartoons on a saturday morning .thats a shame you didn't like it i will probably still go see it though.

afaloren · 24/07/2025 20:44

I agree it was boring. I was looking forward to it but felt like it was just ok. Pedro Pascal was wasted in it tbh, got very little chance to show his talent.

I thought Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm was the highlight. Worst kind of giant space bad guy too.

8misskitty8 · 24/07/2025 22:20

It was ok, was expecting more considering the cast. Agree with last poster, Johnny storm was the best part about it, the rest were wasted.
For all their combined intelligence, the plan at the end was a bit shit.

Urgh im going next week with my Dd ,oh well it is a night out i suppose,

mum2jakie · 24/07/2025 22:36

I'll be watching on Saturday. Really looking forward to it,.despite these reviews!

BeachLife2 · 24/07/2025 22:37

I quite liked it. I'm not a fan of comic book movies with constant fight scenes and explosions, and this is very light on those.

angelinawasrobbed · 26/07/2025 13:10

It was ok, but not special. The styling was good

Vanessa Kirby’s eyelashes were beyond silly

Right, watched it earlier. Agree with other posters, it was 'ok' but nothing to write home about. Much preferred Thunderbolts and Superman from recent films.

Reminded me of Wandavision with the 1950s setting but lacked it's cleverness and humour.

Coffeeishot · 27/07/2025 08:32

Ok is fine sounds like style over substance though.

Can I ask as I realise it's a 12A, is this film very graphic and violent? Considering taking my 8 year old son - he is not particularly sensitive child or easily scared but not sure what call to make on it. I do often find when I watch marvel films for myself that some of them could have got away with a PG - swearing and nudity seems to be pretty minimal and from what I can see of it on BBFC the suggestion is it is more 'emotionally intense' than gory etc

Ddakji · 30/07/2025 21:21

Interesting - DH and DD really enjoyed it. DH said it was much more “comic book” and less real world than more recent DC films, which he liked as a comics fan.

I don't think it would be too graphic or violent for an 8 year old. There is only really one big "fight" scene towards the end. Not sure if it would hold an 8 year old's attention for the whole film though. There's a lot of talking and not loads of action, especially for a super hero film. Superman was definitely better and has a cute funny dog in it!

Another so-so movie from a studio that's lost it's way. Wanted to like it but didn't really engage and lacked pace - also usually a fan of Pedro Pascal (even though he is a twat IRL).

Notmyreality · 02/08/2025 08:29

I liked it. No it’s not the usual smashy crashy fest but I found that refreshing after recent efforts. It’s visually very impressive with the world building and the story held my attention throughout, unlike say the Eternals, also it doesn’t drag on too long. It’s a very “wholesome” movie with a decent screenplay for once unlike say Captain America Brave New World which was dire. My 13 yo DS liked it also.

Coffeeishot · 12/08/2025 22:22

We went this afternoon , I really liked it, loved the retro feel, and the comic bookness of it, was cheesey in parts the birth was daft and Sue storms eye lashes were indeed ridiculous 😀 but thoroughly enjoyed it.

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 22/08/2025 00:25

I thought it was rubbish. And I love Marvel movies. Such lacklustre performances and no chemistry. Also the ridiculous storyline of giving birth in space then landing with a baby that looks 6 months old, who despite being at risk of kidnap, they always leave in another room. All while the fully made up skinny new mum struts around panting after Pedro Pascal (who is a loathsome man, so also probably why I disliked it).

mum2jakie · 05/11/2025 22:34

Film is showing on Disney+ now. Think I enjoyed it more on second viewing.

LemonHamster · 06/11/2025 05:02

Honestly, I walked into The Fantastic Four: First Steps expecting yet another generic reboot… and pleasantly surprised. The cast chemistry (especially Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm) really elevates it.
But the film itself is clearly not one of the best...

I liked how it spent some time showing them being a 'normal' family. One of the reviews I read said it felt like Marvel have remembered how to make a Phase 1 movie again - a self-contained-ish intro story that sets up the characters in a well rounded way.
