I read in the Times today it's okay! Don't like Shia LaBeouf after Transformers. Shame about poor River Phoenix - should have been his part really.

zippitippitoes · 18/05/2008 23:37

river phoenix means i can mention stand by me

my most wacthed film

Pan · 18/05/2008 23:39

Really good recent films - There Will Be Blood, Juno, The Darjeeling Express.
And WILL be seeing Indy soon.
sea - not really sure what you're saying?? That people don't watch films, or talk about them on here? Or not the sort of films you'd like to exchange views on??
I love the story telling of films. Good films are such, wether art-house or main stream.

pinkyminky · 18/05/2008 23:39

I saw the butterfly at the cinema, it was visually lovely onn the big screen.
Going out is hard for us because of children, low funds for babysitting fees, ill parents and DH's job taking up three evenings a week.
I go out with a friend once a month and we either go to the cinema or theatre, and I love it! I used to go to both lots, pre-babies.

But I'm looking forward to Indiana Jones as much as I was going to see the Glass Menagerie last month- no drama snobbery here!

zippitippitoes · 18/05/2008 23:40

the kite runer was a good film i think and eastern promises

zippitippitoes · 18/05/2008 23:40

raise the red lantern one of my all time favourites

Marina · 18/05/2008 23:43

Ah now you see I drew the line at Transformers
He used to be in some quite sweet children's drama from the States
Glad it is not a total due and agree - River Phoenix was perfect casting against Harry in The Mosquito Coast. Waste of a great talent

Marina · 18/05/2008 23:48

Raise the Red Lantern was fantastic
I'd have liked to see The Diving Bell and the Butterfly on the big screen, the lighting and composition merited it I bet. Isn't a lot of it filmed at Berck sur Mer?
We both WOTH and I feel we need to be at home for the majority of our evenings, to spend time with the dcs. Luckily ds is almost at an age to really enjoy Cinema rather than just children's box office smashes. And they both love Miyazake's work I think if we lived near a decent rep cinema we'd be more proactive, but it is grim multiplexes as far as the eye can see round here

zippitippitoes · 18/05/2008 23:50

i have princess mononoke to watch and donnie brasco and the road home

Marina · 18/05/2008 23:52

We haven't seen Princess Mononoke yet! Report back when you can. My Neighbour Totoro is our favourite so far.

zippitippitoes · 18/05/2008 23:57

i am quite a filmy person

but same as music eclectic

noit sure what the aim of this thread was but like westerns and war films myselfs

a town like alice is a good film

pinkyminky · 19/05/2008 00:01

Really liked Donnie Brasco - the family's dialogue was really interesting, I thought.

Yes, Berck SUr Mer, that's where the hospital was. I was fascinated to see how the book was adapted.

Marina · 19/05/2008 00:01

I will watch pretty much anything except recent action blockbusters or stuff with Bruce Willis in
I wish wish wish we could afford a sub to TCM, they have such fantastic vintage stuff on there. You just don't seem to get matinees of things like Random Harvest or Laura etc on other channels now

zippitippitoes · 19/05/2008 00:03

i am a sucker for the cheap rack in tesco and the po next door

pinkyminky · 19/05/2008 00:05

It'll be a few years before my little ones will be appreciating cinema. WE have to go to the Odeon in town to see anything independant etc., or the Cornerhouse.
I remember my first trip to the proper theatre, though. I was convinced that Robert Lindsay really was in love with the female lead, and said so- a bit too loudly!

Molesworth · 30/05/2008 00:18

Ahhh Random Harvest: I haven't seen that film in years Marina!

Took dd to see On The Town at the BFI for her birthday - we both admitted to wetting ourselves slightly with excitement at seeing it on the big screen

Marina · 29/08/2008 23:20

Resurrecting this to tell pinkyminky I have finally seen The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and it was just wonderful. Visually it has to be one of the most memorable films I will ever see.
Watched it as double bill with this plaisir insolite - Fauteuils d'Orchestre, a feather-light and accomplished romantic comedy. Apart from Valerie Lemercier mugging shameless it was a total treat

handlemecarefully · 29/08/2008 23:32

This all looks a bit high brow to me!
