I'd like to go, cause I've read the books, but I need to find a better way to sell it to DH than 'a black and white animated film about growing up in Iran'... for some reason he's not keen!

Anyone able to comment on whether it's worth using a night's babysitting on?

No, but it sounds great.

Saw it last night. LOVED it. We used a nights babysitting up on it, would happily go and see it again (and use up more babysitting...).
More harrowing than I was expecting it to be though, tbh... seeing as it was described as through the eyes of a 9 year old girl, I hadn't really imagined how horrifying it could be in places.
Feeling too brain dead to be able to provide you with a delicious soundbite to tempt your dh with, but it is a fab film.

Read it. Really good stuff.

Look on Youtube for a preview.

Your dh needs to be reasonably interested in other cultures to enjoy it, though.

i went yesterday afternoon, 1pm showing, by myself (39 weeks pregnant you see...). i absolutely loved it and thought it was one of the most original, funny, inspiring (and also atrociously dark as orangina says- but the sense of humour and intelligence of the main character Marjane shine through and carry you through the worst) and thought provoking movies i have seen in a long time.

if dh really not keen you could always go by yourself or with a friend? (if the former though i wouldn't recommend middle of the day as i was the only punter and got a bit scared really...)

I would LOVE to go to the cinema by myself in the middle of the day... lots of popcorn....
(sighs wistfully)

Go, go, go...

Thanks all, will definitely have to see if he can be persuaded.

The only cinema in our area (Birmingham!) showing it is right in the city centre, so perhaps I can throw in a post-cinema curry trip to sweeten the deal, maybe that'll swing it for me...

Beforesunrise, I did actually go to the cinema by myself when dd was about, ooh, 6 weeks old but i did feel a wee bit odd! Not to mention nervous as it was the first time she'd been out of my sight. That was a year ago though, now I happily palm her off on anyone

I really really didn't like it!! And I was looking forward to it too - b&w 2D cartoon about growing up in Iran ticks all the boxes for me!
I just found the story didn't have any 'traction' and the humor was pretty basic and dull - and it was looooong, really long..
But heaps of people love it so go for it..
