Have you taken your baby to the cinema (adult screening)?

My LO is 5 months old and I want to watch the new Gladiator movie. I have no one to watch LO this period. He will be wearing ear defenders and will be facing away from the screen.

I am very fortunate to have a very calm and quiet baby who rarely cries, and will most likely fall asleep throughout the movie. In the unlikely event he does cry, I will immediately step out so as to not disturb other viewers.

Bear in mind, I will be going at an off-peak time during the week so the cinema will most likely be empty.

I am unable to find the answer on the Cineworld website and they have yet to respond to my query I emailed them days ago.

Has anyone taken their baby to an adult screening in Cineworld?

The answer is no because you can only take babies into films rate 12a or below

We are happy to admit Babes In Arms into a morning or afternoon performance with a U, PG or 12A certification.

The Cinebabies performances are aimed at enabling parents with infants to come and watch movies with us in an environment more suitable for small children than our normal screenings- with the lights to half and the sound at a lower volume than normal, though there is no formal restriction on the age of children allowed to come to the performances. The screenings are primarily aimed at the parents rather than the children and we won't show any films rated higher than 12A.

Others show higher ratings. The link I posted includes Gladiator 2 which is a 15.

AuntyEntropy · 25/11/2024 16:26

Gladiator II is a 15 certificate, so no, you can't take a baby into a normal showing.

Go to a different cinema for a parent and baby showing.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/11/2024 16:26

It will be too loud, even with ear defenders - the volume in cinemas these days can literally be felt.

Lots of cinemas have mother and baby sessions, it is just a matter of looking around. The ones near me never include films with an age rating over 12 though.

changedusernameforthis1 · 25/11/2024 16:27

I haven't, but I've parents be there with babies at Vue and Everyman and nobody said anything. One baby slept the whole way through, the other cried once and the Mum left with them for a little while then came back in when they were settled.

I'd call the specific venue you're going to and ask them what their rules are, just so you don't get turned away on the day.

All the baby screening sessions at my local cinema are kids films! I find that so annoying, I'd love to go and watch a normal movie whilst on maternity leave.

Do you have a Picture House near you? They're very good for showing grown up movies for Watch with Baby showings.

:O

Verite1 · 25/11/2024 16:31

I don't know if they still do them, but everyman used to do great mother and baby screenings. They have a variety of locations throughout London. Where are you based?

No I don't have a picture house anywhere near me

Are you near a city?

Zonder · 25/11/2024 16:32

No im not near a city unfortunately, just a medium sized town that has a large cinema but the only parent and baby showings seem to be children's films the latest one is the Lego movie

VWGal · 25/11/2024 16:36

I think this film is 15 rated, which means that legally the cinema can’t allow -
baby in to the screening.

Well there are mum and baby screenings showing it. See the link I posted above.

@Zonder

The 2 paragraphs are from cineworld's own website, their policy in no babies in 15 certificates.

Personally I don't think babies should be in adult showings unless specifically for parents with young babies, not fair on others who have paid. It was no babies when mine were young, I got a babysitter (or just didn't go)

sakura06 · 25/11/2024 16:42

Agree with others that Picturehouse are great for this! You can take a baby to a normal screening, but would have to be a 12A sadly.

I took my baby to see Jurassic World in a sling (aged 8 weeks). I think at 5 months old your baby will be too active for you to enjoy the film as well sadly. I took her to see Suffragette a few months later with ear defenders on but we had to leave as she was too awake and squirmy!

DiscoBeat · 25/11/2024 16:50

But the baby won't meet the age requirement so won't be allowed in, I assume. Also waaay too loud, and ear defenders might not cut it even if they stay on.

Thatcastlethere · 25/11/2024 16:56

It depends on the local authority as different cinemas will have different licensing due to being in different areas.
For example I used to live in Leeds and you could take your baby into any adult showing if they were under 12 months (as long as they weren't creating a disturbance, if they cried you would be expected to leave) and they were able to show any rated film at special "baby cinema screenings"
But the town I live in now has a cinema but it isn't allowed to show adult films during its "baby cinema screenings" and you aren't allowed to take babys under 1 into any screenings.. you can only take them into 12a or under.

It's worth checking online various cinemas within reasonable distance of you because you might find that one will be showing the new gladiator film in a special baby cinema showing.
Those are better as everyone there will have a baby and will be tolerant to baby noise. They also keep the lights slightly on so it's easier to see your baby.. and many show the film with subtitles so you can still follow it if your baby makes noise!
Check various cities and towns coz they'll have different rules.. hopefully you can find one showing the gladiator film that accepts babies or is doing a baby showing. I would have thought so as its a big release.

Thatcastlethere · 25/11/2024 16:59

And FYI last week I took my 9month old to a showing of "Heretic" which is a horror rated 15. It was a "baby cinema" showing so everyone there had a baby with them.
So it is NOT TRUE that no cinemas let babies into 15 certificate films.. as I said it depends on the license the cinema has from the local authority
So check cinemas in different cities they will have different rules even if they are the same company.

Westfacing · 25/11/2024 17:03

Everyman cinemas have parent and baby screenings for adult screenings.

Cineworld aren't the only providers.

You won’t be allowed a baby in an adult session. But do find a baby friendly session. In my experience they’re fantastic and were a real highlight of maternity leave

I used to work at the cinema and you could. As long as the child was under one if it was age restricted.

Coconutter24 · 25/11/2024 18:52

I once saw a mum with a child in a pushchair he was about 2 loud as anything and I almost didn’t go in to watch the film…… until I realised she wasn’t going in but getting her DD and friends tickets

Coconutter24 · 25/11/2024 18:54

Zonder · 25/11/2024 17:13

But it’s cineworld OP is asking about

Needmorelego · 25/11/2024 18:55

@Coconutter24 yes but she said she's in London - where there are plenty of other cinema chains.

Peskydahlias · 25/11/2024 18:58

If you're in London they do it at every everyman cinema and it's far nicer, and not that expensive once you factor in the coffee and cake! I would definitely go to the parent and baby screening.

MissMoneyFairy · 25/11/2024 19:02

The curzon Hoxton and the lexi came up in a Google baby screening
