Halloween film for under 7s

My kids have been pestering me to let them watch a spooky film this weekend (we do Saturday night family movies). DS is 6 and a half and massively into Halloween, he doesn't scare easily either. However, I also have DD (nearly 5) who is a total wettie and doesn't have a great attention span.

Any recommendations for a child-friendly Halloween film that won't make me want to scratch my eyes out? No 'Paw Patrol's Halloween' or other awful TV tie-in films please, I have to watch the film too!

I'd been thinking of Casper but seem to remember a lot of mildly bad language which unfortunately DS will definitely pick up on and copy. (He's that sort of 6 year old... we've been hauled over by his teacher already for copying 'bloody hell' from Harry Potter!)

What about the nightmare before Christmas? Mine have both loved that from early.

PuzzlingRecluse · 10/10/2024 10:53

My ds loves the muppets haunted mansion

Comefromaway · 10/10/2024 10:54

Hotel Transylvania

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 10/10/2024 10:56

The cartoon version of Addams Family movie 2019

Soubriquet · 10/10/2024 11:01

And old one but still fun, The Little Vampire

Singleandproud · 10/10/2024 11:04

Hotel Transylvania films are great as are the Addams family ones or even find the originals. Alot of the content will go over their head but they'll probably still enjoy them.

Great suggestions so far, thank you!

Haven't seen Hotel Transylvania, will investigate.

I love the Nightmare Before Christmas but definitely too scary for DD (although DS would love it, might see if I can find a time to watch it just with him)

How about Hocus Pocus? It's my 4 year old favourite film. She's petrified of the witch in Sleeping Beauty but doesn't find Hocus Pocus scary at all.

Spooky Buddies is a U and is on Disney+ it's a Halloween film with puppies in it .

Coco, Adam's family, the scooby doo movies, hotel Transylvania,

Yes I was going to suggest the Scooby Doo live action film with Sarah Michelle Gellar. My 5 year old niece loves it and she’s quite a scaredy cat.

Edit: I think it has rude language at some points so probs not suitable

Coconutter24 · 10/10/2024 11:52

Hocus pocus was always a favourite at ours

Soubriquet · 10/10/2024 14:40

Tbh, i don’t worry about rude language in children’s films because it usually goes right over their heads

Lulubellamozarella · 10/10/2024 14:43

Another vote for Hocus Pocus.

Iheartmysmart · 10/10/2024 14:44

DS absolutely loved Pumpkin Moon at that age. It’s only about 30 minutes long and it’s about a little black cat who gets caught up in a battle between pumpkins and witches at Halloween. It might only be on DVD though.

AyeupDuck · 10/10/2024 18:40

Yep Hocus Pocus, I just bought a dvd of it, three movies for a quid.

Tenpintonpin · 10/10/2024 18:50

For some reason Curious George's Halloween Boo has become an annual watch in my house, and still makes my kids laugh even though they are far too old for it!

justasking111 · 10/10/2024 19:02

Love Hocus Pocus, Adams family. Matilda.

I was going to recommend this. It is really good and not too spooky.

Ponderingwindow · 10/10/2024 19:07

Spooky buddies

the first time you watch it, it’s not as bad as some other children’s Halloween movies. It’s bad. I’m not going to lie. It’s basically hocus pocus remade with dogs and without the charm of the Sanderson sisters. Once you realize that, it’s fun to watch for the parallels and changes between the two movies.

Womblewife · 10/10/2024 19:09

Pumpkin moon- my dd loves this !!

TentEntWenTyfOur · 10/10/2024 19:12

There's a Winnie the Pooh one - Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie.

Iusedtobeapenguin · 10/10/2024 19:32

Coraline is a lovely spooky film for kids that mine watched around that age.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/10/2024 19:34

Dd was obsessed with hotel Transylvania at that age
