Not sure what to make of it! Had a bit of everything - romance, sci-fi, politics, history...

Enjoyed the first half better than the second. Think it'd have worked better as a TV series but it's definitely one of the more ambitious films I've seen!

DH said it was the worst film he'd seen 😂

I saw it a few days ago. Really didn't think much of it. Was visually stunning at times which kept me from leaving but the odd mix of sci-fi, Shakesperean tragedy and biblical epic really didn't work for me. The main character had an ability to stop time which wasn't really explained and was just used as a sort of party trick without advancing the plot, so not sure what to make of that.

By the end I didn't really care what happened to any of the characters, I just wanted it all to be over.

Coppola is mid 80's now I think and this could be his last film, such a shame it wasn't a better one.

Yes, Caesar's time-stopping powers didn't seem to go anywhere. No explanation or furthering of the plot, whatever the plot was...

To be positive, I did appreciate the camp bombastic tone of much of it. It seemed more aesthetic than story-driven, but also surprisingly tongue-in-cheek and self-aware (except in depictions of women). In a few... decades, perhaps... I think it'll be revisited and gain a bit of a cult following for how overall zany it is. I enjoy when film tries to do something different, even if it's considered an automatic flop.

I just saw it, and glad I did. I can't call it a "great" movie, but I can certainly say that it's grand, clever, different, and done with great care. I can also see why people aren't rushing to see it.

I loved the majestic, intricate visuals. I loved the complexity, even if Coppola didn't necessarily pull it off well. I loved that he was trying to make a point. "Ambitious," as the OP said, is the perfect word.

Sadly, it's getting mixed reviews, at best, and there doesn't seem to be any rush to see it. It has me thinking about "loyalty" - a word I rarely use and a concept I normally don't have much use for.

Think about how many men there must be who adore the first two Godfather movies. (I'll speak of men, because Godfather always tops lists of men's favorites.) I've loved that Coppola has been an adventurous filmmaker, even mortgaging his home to fund a film. Now think of how many men squander tons of money supporting some lackluster losing sports team just because it's linked to their home town or home country, just out of dumb "loyalty." Yet these men won't squander the price of a theater ticket to support a cinematic artist who has given them so much enjoyment. It doesn't even seem to cross their minds. Dammit.
