12 year old going to see 12A at cinema

My daughter wants to go with some friends to see a 12A at the cinema just after her 12th birthday next week. Will they all need to bring proof of age? My daughter doesn't have a passport only a birth certificate and no other photo ID.

Check with the cinema?

JennyBee12 · 09/07/2024 14:22

I just wanted to get an idea of what the rules are but I will check with them

It's fine at our local odeon. My kids went at 11 and 12 and weren't ever checked.

I took DD12 and her friend also 12 to the cinema the other week. I booked their tickets online and printed them out. I took them inside to the person directing customers and she immediately asked for proof of age for both of them (I had thought they might, given they were going to be unaccompanied)

This was a cineworld for reference.

I would take ID

Agree with @Littlebitpsycho take ID just in case. Maybe copy of birth certificate.

However, I have never seen cinemas checking but my DC are adults now so things may have changed. I took DS (at 13) to see the Hunger Games, which was a 12A, and there were obviously children younger than that going in (some looked 7 or 8) - a few of them had to be taken out during the film very upset!

Thanks for the replies. It seems to depend on the cinema so I've emailed Vue to check what their policy is. There is one boy going who will be a month short of his 12th birthday so it might be that I have to go too...

My 12 year old goes to 12A's he's been checked and then not checked at same cinema. He also was told once he needed to be 13 (which isn't true) so think it depends on staff on the day tbh

sleekcat · 09/07/2024 18:02

They might ask, they might not. Depends what she looks like and what her group of friends looks like, and the perception of the staff member. My children have been asked on some occasions but not others, so she should take ID to avoid disappointment.

Take the birth certificate I don't get what the problem is drama over nothing.
