This is actually a pretty good list, better than most, international and eclectic. I also like that it's chronological, not random.

Here's the original, on Stacker. It's dated from 2022, but just on MSN today, which is how I happened to see it.

Thanks will have a look through it.

Was given the book 1001 Films To See Before You Die for Christmas that we are working through.

Hey @MsAmerica @Mothership4two good to see you both. That's an interesting list.

I would say Tarkovsky's Solaris (1972) and Metropolis by Lang (1927) are some ot my favs. What are yours?

SocksAndTheCity · 27/04/2024 15:31

I enjoyed the list too - thank you! I was happy that I've seen the majority of them, and I have some new ones I haven't to look out for now.

I agreed with most of it, but I do think that Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a glaring omission Smile

I've only seen 27. Lots of them aren't my usual genres, so I wouldn't typically bother if they were on TV and I wouldn't seek them out. I've only seen 7 of the films from 1995 onwards - most recently Moonlight, which I thought was excellent.

Mothership4two · 28/04/2024 12:03

I'm surprised how many I had seen but there are a few I have never heard of. Loads of brilliant films on there. Surprised the most recent one was 2016. I am not in a rush to watch Eraserhead or Killer of Sheep!

I saw 53 of them. I am happy to see gems from Iran on the list but the omission of Korean filmmakers is baffling.

Anyway I think Criterion has sale now, so I will order 'Beau Travail' and 'Yi Yi'.

I like the idea but always find those "before you die" titles creepy.

Do you - any of you - have theaters that show old movies?
