Anyone else seen it? It was an interesting watch, but I have a question re the plot and whether we ever found out what the letter from the mother said?

I like how the movie was made. However, a couple of my friends find it weird because of the way the cameras were placed and the fact there was no zooming. But I think that this combined with sounds really contributed to the quality of a movie on this topic.

I thought it was excellent and it's stayed with me.

One of the most shocking moments in my mind was when he was at his bigwig meeting and they acknowledged all the non attendees at the start, like one does in a meeting. Except they also listed the camp that individual "ran". I'm embarrassed that I had no idea there were so many Sad

5 specific extermination centres: Birkenau, treblinka, sobibor, belzec and majdanek, but hundreds of concentration and work camps

I’ve just watched this on Prime. Can’t get over it. One of the most extraordinary films I’ve seen.

Really interesting camera work. No zooming. I’ve only just switched it off but I don’t think I’d recognise Sandra if I passed her in the street right now!

The eldest child Klaus was a foul kid from what I’ve read. He used to beat the Jewish servants. He was expelled from more than one school for poor behaviour.

The little daughter who was sleepwalking/wandering. Bless her. The environment clearly affected her. Her father tenderly carrying her upstairs having slept with a prisoner earlier that night…uuugh.

It really was. I watched it twice and then read loads of articles about it, including how they actually built the house, so it would look new and the reason it's shot that way, from a distance, with no point of view shots is to prevent the audience feeling empathy with the protagonists.

Stunning, important piece of work.

Raping a prisoner. Also the memo he dictated to the guards about not damaging the lilac bushes is apparently referring to female prisoners they are raping as well.

Didn’t pick up on that - the lilac. Gross.

There was a brothel at Auschwitz, there’s a book called ‘House of dolls’ which is all about it. They were known as Joy Divisions
