Anyone seen this?

I knew that she met Elvis when she was really young (14 I think) but this really shows that age difference in such a way that it’s quite disturbing, although the actors were the same age

The film itself was pretty boring, didn’t really go anywhere and then just finished at the point that I think the story would be more interesting.

I’ve just been. It was alright. I know he mumbled but I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. It was awful how young she was and how controlling he was. I think it would be one to watch at home really.

It's quite a familiar story, but I thought really well acted, and it did bring out the 'gilded cage' that she was in, and how early on it was that he/they were slaves to the drugs. I enjoyed it for the aesthetics as much as anything - the 60s clothes and fashions and cars.

Agree - I could barely understand a thing that Elvis said!

I loved it!

I had high hopes for this film and went out of my way to see it.

Most of the film was on how young she was, emphasised by how small she was compared to him and there were some very uncomfortable screen shots such as him walking with his arm around her. Of course, that was the point of the shot.

I thought it disappointing that you didn't see any performances (just that weird shot from the back for a minute and on TV) or even hear his music. Elvis was under enormous strain and not coping and Priscilla was caught up in that. It would have given a more layered film: this felt as if we were watching through a keyhole. Did she not go to any of his performances? The film acted as if she didn't.

Rockshore · 17/01/2024 12:24

I dont think the Presley estate granted permission for his music to be used.

I quite enjoyed it having read the book but it definitely underlined how young she was and you cant imagine it happening today.

Abracadabra12345 · 17/01/2024 12:32

dont think the Presley estate granted permission for his music to be used.

Ah that would make sense. A pity as it made for an uneven film.

Yes the film really did go on and on about how young she was which seemed to be the main point. Her later years were more condensed

EachandEveryone · 17/01/2024 13:50

It was quite sickening though had that soldier set him up with young girls before I wonder?

AmazingLemonDrizzle · 02/03/2024 19:13

I'm watching this now!

And have All The Questions already

I thought priscilla was a producer? So is she telling her story?

Why on earth did the Parents agree to it??? Why did he choose a 14 year old?

The whole thing is so bizarre.

AmazingLemonDrizzle · 02/03/2024 19:45

Omg and elvis' parents were fine with it and treating her almost like an employee?? So weird.

AmazingLemonDrizzle · 02/03/2024 20:13

Guns???

He's so controlling. He's keeping her as an object completely isn't her 😔. It's horrible.

rosewain24 · 08/03/2024 16:21

The aesthetics were great, and I am glad that Elvis wasn't painted in a great light as he was in the 'Elvis' film, this being said I did find the film boring and thought it was flat.

Neveralonewithaclone · 23/04/2024 23:59

Just watching this now. Priscilla is an executive producer so I would have thought they could use his music? I'm glad they didn't though as it kept the focus on Priscilla rather than him. I don't think the parents would have been able to dissuade her, she was 17 going to live with Vernon (ostensibly) and it was very normal to marry at 18 then. I believe Elvis told the father that they would marry in time. I'd be so interested to hear a psychiatrist's opinion of Elvis. He's so egocentric and controlling and with his weird Madonna / whore crap. And habitually unfaithful.

Epli · 27/04/2024 19:20

I liked the movie overall but it felt a bit unbalanced in giving so much attention to pre-marriage and rushing the post-marriage period. I thought characters were really well written, and what we've seen of Elvis was perfect in terms of adding context to the stage legend.

Just resurrecting this thread as Priscilla has now landed on Netflix.

I find the subject just very sad and odd. The power imbalance between them is just insane and she's very much just his living doll.

I don't understand his psychology at all, he has a girl at home desperately in love with him. He refuses to have sex with her yet is routinely unfaithful.

Also he seems obsessed with his buddies and being surrounded 24/7 by an entourage.

I can understand Priscilla, she's a teenager, she's desperately in love and doesn't know any better.
