Recommendations for a ladies movie night

My WI has a monthly movie night that I host bi-monthly. It is usually 8 ladies aged 45-70. We are looking for recommendations. So far we have seen:

What we did on our holiday (this was a big hit)
Lion
The Guernsey Literary and potato peel pie society
Parasite
Three Billboards
The Upside (another big hit)
Fisherman's friends
A Man called Otto
Wonder
Saving Grace (dull)
Thirteen Lives
Skin
Hidden Figures

Thinking of 'The Book Thief' next as it is one of my favourite films. Others have asked for a comedy or a rom com. Any recommendations?

My recommendation is Finding Your Feet. Stars Imelda Staunton, Celia Imrie andTimothy Spall among others.

The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley McLaine. A 1960s rom com movie where a young corporate man lends out his apartment to senior male executives to have affairs in. Then it all goes a bit pear shaped. If they don't mind a black and white rom com movie with jaw dropping attitudes to women, to the modern eye, it's perfect.

Any Almodovar film.
Marriage story
Ladybird
Whiplash
La la land

The new west side story is good.
For comedy Step brothers is my fave and rom com maybe Ticket to paradise. George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Its an easy watch.
Or what about musical ones? Rocket man the Elvis one or Whitney Houston movies?

The nineties version of Romeo & Juliet? Gripping, violent and stylish. The brilliant Pete Poslethwaite was in it. And Esme from the Great British Sewing Bee designed the iconic shirts.

Pulp Fiction?

I'm using this thread to choose my movie nights for the next few months!

Thinking about this has made me realise how rarely I watch films (other than with the kids) nowadays!
Two older favourites:
Monsoon Wedding
Hot Fuzz

The colour purple
To kill a mockingbird

If they've asked for comedy/ romcoms;

How to Lose a Guy in 10 days
50 first dates
The Wedding Planner
27 Dresses
Most of the Hugh Grant romcoms were easy going and fun.

I suggested it further up the thread but Magic Mike is a change of pace for you all but with happy ending/uplifting story. Certainly some humour.
The Full Monty ; grittier British telling of similar tale with less talented dancers. 😉

Tea with Mussolini

Mrs Harris goes to Paris. It’s light but well done.

BarrelOfOtters · 04/08/2023 12:27

Bridge of spies and the Courier. Proper old fashioned films

Menopausehaver · 04/08/2023 12:29

I saw women talking with my WI group, it’s very well done but certainly nowhere near a romcom

ODFOx · 04/08/2023 12:57

Can't believe I missed 'Under the Tuscan Sun'. Such a good 'womany' film.

Jandob · 30/09/2023 16:11

Bridget Jones (all of them), newer Bond films, Aquaman just for Jason Momoa, when Harry Met Sally, any Nora Ephron films, Blythe Spirit, Shakespeare in Love, Enchanted.

Britpopbaby · 30/09/2023 19:12

First Wives Club
Barbie
Shirley Valentine

Is the Take That musical film out? I didn’t think I would like it not being a TT fan but it’s a good laugh.

What We Did On Our Holidays.
