this was just a fab, funny and gory film with a great cast. I really loved it and hope there will be a sequel!

I thought it was great too - very silly but funny. Both Nicholases were hilarious. Much better than I was expecting.

Niftythrifter · 15/04/2023 21:08

@NooNakedJacuzziness I thought Akwafina(sp?) was great too!

How gross was it? I am very tempted but don’t do too well with extreme gore

Niftythrifter · 15/04/2023 21:15

@AwkwardSquad it was pretty gory but it was very comedic in my opinion and very much tongue in cheek in that some of the gore was very over exaggerated. It’s a 15 if that helps.

Good news, off to see it soon with DD!

AwkwardSquad · 15/04/2023 21:33

@Niftythrifter that does help, thanks. I may brave it! I do like Awkfina as well, she’s a great comedic actor

Niftythrifter · 16/04/2023 00:06

@AwkwardSquad Yes totally agree! Have you seen her in The Farewell? That’s a great film!

Enjoyably daft, and Nicolas Cage was brilliant. I hope they make a sequel where Nic's Dracula can take centre stage.

I normally cover my eyes at gore, but the gore in this was so ludicrously OTT that it didn't bother me, really.

I loved the bit at the start where they'd added Nic and Nicholas to the original footage of the 1931 film. That's one of my favourite films and it was amazing to see bits of it on the big screen.

Not too long, either, at about 90 mins, so moves at good pace - it's refreshing to see a film not unnecessarily padded to run to 2 hours!

Niftythrifter · 16/04/2023 19:12

@PussBilledDuckyPlait it looked like they were having great fun and agree Nic Cage was fab! It was great to have a film that is of a reasonable length and going for fun rather than tackling social issues (although I did like the codependency theme).

Yes, it certainly came across that they were having a whale of a time making it!

Niftythrifter · 16/04/2023 20:04

I like “high brow” films but my goodness sometimes I just need a good laugh and not have to engage my brain too much and be entertained. Unlike recent Marvel films it’s not been overhyped and was entertaining. I skimmed some reviews and they weren’t great so glad I didn’t read them before seeing the film.

And unlike the recent Marvel films I have seen I wasn’t waiting for it to end or be ready to fall asleep ( latest Ant Man film)

The last film I saw at the cinema was Avatar: The Way of Water. I saw it in 3D so it was spectacular, but my goodness, it was far too long and if it hadn't been for the visual effects, I don't think it would have held my attention at all after the first hour or so.

I agree, Renfield is perfect if you just want some undemanding fun. I hope it does well at the box office. There were only 5 people in the theatre today plus DH and me, but it might gain momentum.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 16/04/2023 20:33

I think it's got the potential to become a cult classic.

Niftythrifter · 16/04/2023 21:20

@NooNakedJacuzziness I hope so! We all need a bit of escapism and entertainment purely for entertainments sake! I think that it could find its audience in terms of streaming and hopefully some streaming service would do a Glass Onion and commission a sequel!
