Anyone seen it? I've just been with DD and we thoroughly enjoyed it. And now I want a 50s style Dior dress.

Just seen it. I haven't seen the other film or read the book. That dress would have never fitted that model!

Yes, it’s light and fluffy and perfect to escape what’s happening in the world for a little while. I also loved the Angela Lansbury version.

I took it as a compliment when a work colleague upon my saying I was going to the cinema, said that presumably I was not going to see this film.

Much as I have loved most of Lesley Manville's work.

I don't think I'll see it at the cinema, but is the book good?

Oh come on
Paul Gallico wrote this in 1958.
It's totally of its time.

I've seen the original and love a bit of whimsy, but my god this was awful. I'd think twice about watching it for free on tv on a wet Saturday afternoon tbh

I agree, it was dreadful!

RampantIvy · 19/12/2022 12:46

I loved it. I haven't read the book, nor seen a previous ersion, so had no pre-conceived ideas about the story.
The film made me smile.

I thought it was charming. I wished my Nana was still around and we could have watched it together and commented on the fashions. Made me a little wistful because of that.

The cast were great and the film tripped merrily along. I don't know the book but have learned from experience to never compare a film adaptation to the original book; the film will always be found wanting.

Very late to the party posting but wanted to share my thoughts.
I was SO looking forward to seeing the film and was BITTERLY disappointed.
Flowers For Mrs Harris is one of my all time favourite books and I loved the original film which stuck fairly faithfully to the book.
The LM version however absolutely ripped the heart out of the book.
The Marquis would NOT have treated Mrs Harris like that.
They cut major chunks out of the film.
The Marquis and his daughter being reunited.
The lady at Dior getting her husband's medals.
Mrs Harris blagging her way through customs.
If I had watched the film having not read the book or seen the original film then I might have thought it was a nice film but was left feeling very let down! 😔

I absolutely hated it. It was horribly contrived, which I wouldn't have minded if it had some genuine charm. Sadly it left me totally cold. Pretty frocks, though.

For genuinely charming fairytale fluff I highly recommend the 2008 adaptation of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.
