monkeygirl · 23/11/2004 22:22

It's a Wonderful Life - sob sob!

mothernature · 23/11/2004 22:42

Home Alone -
Christmas Carol -
White Christmas -
Miracle on 34th Street -

marthamoo · 23/11/2004 23:49

Is Elf good then?

Definitely "It's a Wonderful Life" - one of my all time, all time faves.

And "Miracle on 34th Street" - Richard Attenbrough is Father Christmas.

And "The Snowman" is wonderful, and we even like "The Bear", though not as much.

Holiday Inn - kind of the original to white christmas.

I hadn't seen wonderful life until a couple years ago and quickly realised what an excellent film it was.

fairydust · 24/11/2004 15:23

Miracle on 34th street

and for some strange reason - City of Angels.

Gingerbear · 24/11/2004 16:18

Scrooged with Bill Murray

Oh, and quite an old film with Bob Hope, but v funny - The Lemondrop Kid. Here is the synopsis:

A race-track tipster known as "The Lemon Drop Kid" mistakenly gives a gangster's moll a bad tip on a dog, costing her ten thousand dollars. The gangster is understandably upset about this and orders the Kid to pay up, forcing him to plot an elaborate Christmas-time con game to raise the funds.

zephyrcat · 24/11/2004 16:22

Muppets christmas carol - seriously its excellent!! I buy it every xmas then trade it for something else to watch the rest of the year!!!

Davros · 24/11/2004 21:50

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (although its Thanksgiving, same thing to us)
When Harry Met Sally
Its a Wonderful Life of course. Went to local art house cinema to see it last year (although have it on DVD), we both sobbed our hearts out!

mrsmiawallace · 24/11/2004 22:01

wizard of oz
7 brides for 7 brothers(always on at christmas when i was a nipper)

GymJunkie · 24/11/2004 22:53

A Christmas Carol.(Scrooge)....with Alistair Sims...remember watching it with my Darling Dad one year .................years ago...he is here with Mum this year and I have bought it on DVD will watch it on Christmas Eve when DS is in bed.........ooh and then it really will be Christmas...except Mum and Dad will be doing the relaxing and I/we will be looking after them, isn't funny how the order of things shifts imperceptibly, until the minded, are doing the minding.

zaphod · 24/11/2004 22:58

Old film called 'The Holly and the Ivy', 'It's a Wonderful Life', 'While You Were Sleeping', 'The Santa CLause', and I also like 'Elf'. Still haven't seen the 'The Santa Clause 2', the rest of the family went and left me at home with the baby!

80sMum · 24/11/2004 22:59

I think "It's a Wonderful Life" wins. It's just a lovely, uplifting, sentimental film - the kind they just don't make any more.

DaddyCool · 25/11/2004 11:37

I know it's not a movie but (and this might catch the eye of the north american mn'ers) the original cartoon version of "how the grinch stole christmas". Awesome.

jude2105 · 25/11/2004 11:44

Oh dear! wondering if i've just ordered the wrong thing. Big debate at work yesterday as to whether i wanted "The Santa CLause" (tim Allen) or "Santa Claus the Movie" (Dudley Moore). Final result was "The Santa Clause" so that's what i went for (1 & 2). Please tell me i've not bought a turkey! .
Apart from that Miracle on 34th Street definitely! and Mary Poppins!
