Christmas film suggestions

So I'm looking for a Christmas film for us to watch on first night of a friends Christmas get together.

It's me and 3 guys. Children who are older teens may, or may not join us, but most likely not tbh. No young children, so no age restrictions.

We want something that we all enjoy and that has a warm, Christmassy vibe.
NO Sci-Fi, Horror or Action
A reasonably recent film, rather than the old favourites.
One of the guys has recently broken up with his boyfriend of 20 years, so not a film where the whole plot is a falling in love type situation.
We have Netflix, Prime, and regular channels. Potentially happy to pay for Disney + for a month.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, some great suggestions, but we've seen them all.

We're looking for a more recent film, rather than old favourites!

It’s difficult to find modern non-romantic films.

The Christmas Chronicles
Fatman
Jingle Jangle
A bad moms Christmas
Get Santa
Bad Santa
Deck the Halls

I just watched Last Christmas on Netflix, released 2019 but I must say it's not wonderful! The London locations are fun as I'm a Londoner, and there are some funny lines. It is a lot about romantic attraction :(

Klaus? It's a cartoon but I enjoyed it!

Most of the more modern ones are very romance based I think. Christmas chronicles maybe? I think there's a new one this year too.

What about Noelle? With Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader. It's not a classic but I can't remember any romance so might fit the bill. Arthur Christmas?

I’ve seen this 3 times in the cinema and twice at home so obviously I do think it’s wonderful!

But it IS romantic (and sad, and funny)

Try out the evergreen Home Alone

Another vote for klaus. Menopause means I can't remember anything about it but I did enjoy it...

The Night Before is really fun and free on Prime

Go (1999). Just trying to go out

So films we always watch at Christmas because of the warm feel good factor - but aren’t Christmas themed are The Blind Side (based on a true story) and RV (starring the late Robin Williams and just very funny).

as recommended by a fellow mumsnetter - watched Click and Collect, great, Stephen Merchant

I have just literally watched Last Christmas and although it was cheesy shite, I wasn't expecting the ending and now I'm a blubbering hot mess Xmas Blush.

8misskitty8 · 23/12/2021 23:04

Arthur Christmas
Elf
Bad Santa

Monolithique · 26/12/2021 18:31

I was put off watching Last Christmas because of the reviews but watched it on Xmas eve and thought it was a fabulous film.
Loved the cameo appearance at the end.

nativity 2 unbelievable, who on earth wrote it, children?
might try nativity 1, which is apparently better
