Trying to choose a few old films to watch that the kids haven't seen yet.
My older ones (13 yrs and 18yrs) want to watch this one, however thought I'd ask what others thought about a slightly younger child with this film.
Purely because I haven't seen it since it released in 2005 or whenever, and cannot remember fully.

This is no help because I misread the title and thought you meant 'The Tomorrow Wars' - which, incidentally, my 9yr old LOVED (as did the 12 and 14yr old).

Just in case you've not seen and need another option!

Oh, I don't know that one @FuckingHateRats. Will check it out, thank you. Smile

I wouldn't show it to a 9yr old. It scared me and the images and sounds have stayed with me!

Check out the parent section on IMDB

Commonsense media is a really useful website for things like this.

WeatherwaxLives · 06/08/2021 19:08

No.

There's a bit where the dad and child are in a basement with another person who keeps making noise, while the alien robot things are outside. The dad kills the other person.

That bit, more than all the others has always stuck with me as it's more real, iyswim. The alien robots are easily dismissed as pure fantasy. But that bit of a parent taking drastic action to protect their child is too real.

The series on Disney plus with Daisy Edgar-Jones (Marianne in normal people) is pretty bleak. I wouldn't let tweens watch it.

CheerfulBunny · 06/08/2021 19:14

I was thinking of that exact bit @WeatherwaxLives It's a bit strong, also where it shows the alien crafts are using blood to spray out as fertiliser.. It's a good film (I love a Tom Cruise film) but probably a bit much for a 9 year old.

FunkyChickenMonkeyBusiness · 06/08/2021 19:38

That's a firm no then? Grin

I don't remember anyone being murdered in it though. My memory of it is sketchy at best however.

9 is too young to process the film without the risk of anxiety. It's a very scary film

I wouldn’t watch it purely because it’s so crap! Hardly based on the novel at all. I’m an English teacher and watched it with a yr9 class once when we had read the novel as they begged - even they agreed that it was rubbish. And yes, some pretty graphic violence too.
