What a great Christmassy film. Some parts may be a bit scary for a very young child (train thundering through the night, scary puppet), but I feel all warm and tingly inside now. It's released in December.

I was wondering whether to take my kids (5 and 2.5) to see that. Sounds like they would be able to handle it. We saw a preview when we went to see Shark Tale and it did look good.

i didnt know it was out yet, i am waiting for the incredibles, anyone seen it yet?

fairydust · 26/11/2004 21:16

hazlinh · 29/11/2004 01:45

there's a thread on the incredibles

GlitterGrommit · 05/12/2004 12:58

Just seen Polar Express and it was great - a really lovely Christmas film. Dd (4)who is a real wriggler and cannot sit still for more than about 2 minutes was transfixed. Recommend this to anyone wanting to start feeling festive!

hollybet · 05/12/2004 13:14

Just been on the bbc website looking at this film, as ds2 needs a treat this afternoon and it has a really crap review. Anyone else like to reassure me that I won't be wasting my tenner?

suzywong · 05/12/2004 13:16

DH took DS1 to see it yesterday, both mesmerised from start to finish

hollybet · 05/12/2004 20:20

We loved it - so yah boo sucks to the bbc!!

Turkeyeater · 05/12/2004 23:17

Just taken 3 X 5 year olds and 2 X 7 year olds, total concentration for the whole film by them all. Thought it had elements of the snowman. Loved the ticket getting lost bit. Didnt like the conductors bald head, refreshing in an uncommercial way. 1000 times better than Bridget Jones.

ladymuck · 05/12/2004 23:28

Do you think a 3y8m would manage this one. He's only seen Thunderbirds at the cinema so far, but I'd like to take him again.

Turkeyeater · 06/12/2004 00:17

No, I think thats too young, fast roller-coasting train ride, kids nearly falling off train tramp chap is the moral man, but in one scene does appear to have his head smashed off by a bridge...
Story based on kids being turned back into Father Christmas believers after they become sceptics.. so this is the ideal age of viewer, assume your child is still a believer?

ladymuck · 06/12/2004 13:30

Yes he's still a believer - thanks for the feedback!

efmach · 12/12/2004 15:36

We're seeing this at an Imax cinema in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!!!

taramac · 12/12/2004 15:55

I took my 2 ds's this afternoon aged 7 and 3 and they both loved it - not a mutter from either of them the whole time! Pretty much the same for me too!! Fantastic!

yuleicorn · 12/12/2004 16:39

we went this afternoon too with dd.. 5.. loved it, and she did too..
Go and see it-- Before Christmas though!

moosh · 13/12/2004 14:22

Must just be me then. Ds nearly 5 watched it and thought it was good, but had a nightmare about ghosts and the dark the morning after we watched the film. I thought the storyline was good, but the animation almost frightening and quite disturbing.Alot of the movement was haunting to say the least and it seemed so dark and dank, not much brightness and Christmas feel to it. But as I said ds liked it alot so it must just be me who is not in a hurry to see it again.

bluesky · 13/12/2004 19:19

friends saw it at an IMAX cinema and said it was fantastic, with children aged 5-10 yrs.

summ1 · 19/12/2004 11:54

Dh took ds(5) to see this yesterday and both said it was a fab film, very chrismassy worth going to see for the festive season

juniperdropofbrandy · 19/12/2004 12:10

Oooo goody, glad it's good. Going to take DSs today or tomorrow. DS1 is 7 and DS2 is 4 but he likes lord of the rings and harry potter so I'm hoping he'll be ok?

roisin · 20/12/2004 17:51

Oh dear - took dss today. Ds1 (7) loved it. But ds2 (5.5) was terrified for much of it. Rollercoaster, falling off train, high bridge scenes all far too much for him. Plus he really didn't follow the "not believing" plot line.

So I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with young/sensitive kids. (Ds2 also found Finding Nemo and Shark Tale scary.)

I'm also not convinced it's suitable for children who don't understand the concept of 'not believing in Father Christmas'.

SnowmAngeliz · 20/12/2004 18:04

We didn't like it.
Just got back with dd aged 3.10 and she was terrified! (but didn't want to come out).
I thought the second half was o.k but the first half was WAY too scary for my dd!!

posyhairdresser · 20/12/2004 18:11

DD age 5 was quite scared at times and not that impressed - dp not impressed at all!

The incredibles scored highly with both though!
