Anyone else watching Halloween movies?

We had a busy day yesterday so I danced a Halloween movie before bed. I watched Before I go to Sleep which was quite good and now I'm watching The Boy 2 which I was excited to find as I wanted to see it at the cinema but didn't get around to it.

Anyone else watching Halloween movies?

Any recommendations?

I watched Zombiellenium.. Kids film about a theme park that uses zombies and skeletons etc... Utter crap.

BlackLetterDay · 31/10/2020 17:20

What's the boy 2 about? I watched the Simon pegg/nick frost thing on amazon prime, quite enjoyed it.

orangejuicer · 31/10/2020 17:21

TV rather than films but BBC's Dracula is great.

EatPrayYoga · 31/10/2020 17:26

Dracula was good

Boy 2 is stars Katie Holmes and their son find a doll buried outside...

Just watched The Invisible Man with Elizabeth Moss. She a fantastic actress and the movie was really good until the end, so disappointing.

BunTooti · 31/10/2020 17:33

Netflix The possession of Hannah Grace...not a great oscar winner but I really enjoyed being scared last night.

BlackLetterDay · 31/10/2020 18:57

I wish I could resensitise to enjoy horror Sad it's all so blah.

EatPrayYoga · 31/10/2020 19:32

It really depends on my mood

I either find it full or get really freaked out!

Got the shining on just now and Halloween later 🎃Halloween Grin

EatPrayYoga · 31/10/2020 19:54

I have never watched either of those

Maybe a classic is the way to go

DH doesn't like horror so might have to send him upstairs!

I don't know whether to watch old favourites or try new ones

Old favourites include
Nightmare on elm street 1 and 3 being the best
Halloween
Friday the 13th
The shining
Psycho
Poltergeist (originally only)
The birds (I'm afraid of birds anyway so this one REALLY gets to me!)
Hellraiser
Candyman
Amityville horror
Jaws
The omen
Cube
Dead calm (probably more a psychological thriller than a horror, though I find those if done well can be very disturbing)
Panic room (as above)
Scream franchise (although seen so many times now more fun than scary, for all the references to other horrors)
Stigmata
Devils advocate
An American werewolf in London
Misery
Shaun of the dead (not really a zombie fan but this was fun)
Intruders (2015) also called shut in is good
IT prefer the older version but new one is ok
Silence of the lambs
Last house on the left
The strangers
The purge is ok mainly with the interesting premise and ethical dilemma it poses
Wishmaster

There's a few "classics" I haven't got around to watching yet that I should probably try

Gaslight (another psychological thriller more?)
Duel
Don't look now
The exorcist (life seems to keep sabotaging my attempts to watch this something always interrupts!)
Texas chainsaw massacre
Carrie
Alien
The lost boys
Deliverance
Hereditary
A quiet place

Newer ones I could be tempted by and would love to know mners thoughts on include

Wes cravens new nightmare
28 days later
The ring - either version
Drag me to hell
Let the right one in
The invisible man
Us
Get out
I'm generally disappointed by the newer ones in honesty. Dd is also a horror movie fan now but she'll tell me a film is good and I'll watch it and it's dire!

Ones I've seen but really don't rate include

Bram stokers dracula
The others
insidious
Paranormal activity - just dire!
House of wax - any version

EatPrayYoga · 31/10/2020 20:42

I like the creepy ghosty / drama ones like Boy, the ring, amityville, (what's the one with the doll?), mama, orphan, ones about haunted houses or creepy children... more so than the slasher ones

Enjoyed Boy II

the exercise of emily rose really scared me

Halloween, poltergeist and the ring are all on "normal" tv tonight think I'll watch poltergeist then the ring

EatPrayYoga · 31/10/2020 21:35

I don't think I can do poltergeist. It scared me so much as a kid.

The ring was a good one.

I don't think I'll manage to wait up for Halloween at 10:45 Grin

I'm watching now and I genuinely find it more sad than scary especially since becoming a mother. Jobeth Williams portrayal is far more a mother bereft and wanting her daughter back than a typical horror movie character

She and Craig t nelson look SO YOUNG in it! Makes me feel old but then it is 38 years old! Shock

CandyLeBonBon · 01/11/2020 01:04

Orphan is good

Graphista · 01/11/2020 01:08

To put that in perspective when I watched a film that much older at dds age (I'm 48 she's 19) it would have been one made in 1953, I've seen several films from that year as I love old movies but I suspect I'm relatively unusual in that respect.

Coincidentally 1953 is the year both Stephen spielbergs wives were born! Isn't life weird

grassisjeweled · 01/11/2020 01:09

I can't, I'm too scared

Littlefiendsusan · 01/11/2020 01:17

I'm far too scaredy cat to watch proper horror films but we did watch The Invitation tonight, some of which I had to watch through my fingers but apart from those moments, it was excellent.

Graphista · 01/11/2020 16:55

I ended up watching the invisible man after poltergeist cos the version of the ring was the foreign subtitled one and my eyesight is poor so I struggle with that especially late at night so I wouldn't have been able to follow it.

But the invisible man was good! It's the new version with elisabeth moss who is a fantastic actress, love her.

But it is a film that requires your full attention, there's lots of wee scenes and visual things you need to notice to follow it. You can't watch and mn! Grin

EatPrayYoga · 01/11/2020 16:58

I think that version of the Ring is quite frightening.

I get what you mean about having to watch. I'm so bad about watching tv while Mumsnetting and then not knowing what's going on!

I couldn't find a scary one to watch today (so many Christmas films on Prime!) so watched Crazy Rich Asiana and it was okay.

I like things like the Conjuring and Annabelle but nothing took my fancy.

I much prefer older horrors but insidious is great if you haven't saw it
