My dd 12 is going to her friend's house ( they are in the same bubble at school, we are a tier 1 area) and they are wanting to watch a 'horror' film. The other child is allowed to watch 15's and 18's but my daughter only gets to see the occasional 15 if I have cleared it with IMDb parent's guide.
So, do you have any recommendations of old ghost films that you think are scary but not violent please.

Woman in Black is rated a 12 and is terrifying for most 12 yr olds.

My as and his friend are going to watch The Lost Boys today. It’s got funny bits, scary bits and great music!

Meant to say ds and his mate are 12.

There's a new one on Netflix called Hubie Halloween, it's more comedy than horror but has couple of jumpy parts.

Beetlejuice of you dont mind the couple of swear words.

FairyAnn · 31/10/2020 09:23

Beetle juice
The Craft
Woman in Black
Practical Magic
Ring (the US version is pretty tame)
House on the Haunted Hill (remake is tame)

As a12 yo/teen I used to love scary films, I'd take them when I was babysitting (fir after the kids were asleep. Mostly in cots, so no way they'd see them).

I'm now 51 and will be 'home alone' tonight and I'm looking for things that aren't too scary. 😂🤣. How times change!

Thanks for starting the thread 🧙‍♀️ 🎃

Always tricky when DD is overnighting.

Not really Halloween, but full of zombies, how about Shaun of the Dead (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost star)? It is very funny.

YouLando · 31/10/2020 21:38

vintageyoda I recommend you check out the parents' guide on Imdb for Shaun of the Dead, if you haven't watched it yourself. I wouldn't show it to a 12 year old. Genius film, but gory and very adult language throughout.

Thanks all, some great suggestions.

The woman in black, I took my niece when she was 12 to see it at the cinema and she loved it! Definitely worth a shot, plus it’s Daniel Radcliffe so a familiar face
