Is it just me or is Ratatouille a bit of a let down?

Was thinking - finally, a kid's film that's as good as Toy Story. Pixar usually make good ones, and all the reviews were five star.

But boy, it was a let down. Too long. DS got bored. None of the different levels of humour that you'd come to expect from Pixar.

Still not as bad as some of the tripe that's peddled during holiday season.

Why or why is it taking so long to release another funny kids' movie?

Spent 21 quid on tickets for all three of us. Would have been better off waiting for the dvd and letting him watching it the obligatory 50 times.

I nearly took dd5, but had a copy coming on dvd, and I totally sympathise with you spending that kind of dosh.

Its not that funny, no magic, as i was expecting form Pixar. I know they can't churn out the same ting, but they do have the ability to surely make something fantastic for the kids.

The character remy, had lots more potential, being so cute.

My dd now has the said dvd, and has watched it about 6 times.

I agree, it was a bit of a let down.

policywonk · 26/10/2007 16:12

As good as The Incredibles, or not so much ? (I bloody love The Incredibles.)

Moomin · 26/10/2007 16:15

I disagree - I thought it was great and very magical, esp the scenes of Paris. I took dd1 to see it last night and we both loved it. haven't seen the Incredibles but thought it was defo on a par with Finding Nemo (not quite up to Toy Story 2 standard, but that's a modern classic!)

bossykate · 26/10/2007 16:17

it was dross! hurrah someone agrees with me! saw flushed away yesterday - that's really good.

BrownSuga · 26/10/2007 16:18

nowhere near as good as incredibles

christywhisty · 27/10/2007 13:16

I fell asleep!

It was okay , but did seem to lack something that other Pixar films have.

christywhisty · 27/10/2007 13:17

prefered The Incredibles

LIZS · 27/10/2007 13:19

Saw it yesterday and didn't get the fuss either. The only film showing suitable for both dd and ds at half term . £21 is a lot we paid £16 for 4.

Snaf · 27/10/2007 13:21

Agree. Took ds (4) to see it and he wanted to leave halfway through. I was a wee bit bored myself.

I think it looks great, but the storyline is strange for a kid's film. It didn't grab me, or ds.

WideWebWitch · 27/10/2007 13:24

I liked Ratouille (keep hearing Califrau's explanation of the way she's heard some Americans pronouncing it - rat tweel!) but not as much as The Incredibles or Shrek. Or Flushed away, I agree, that's fab.

WideWebWitch · 27/10/2007 13:24

Sorry, rat a tweel

MaryAnnSingletomb · 27/10/2007 13:25

We saw it yesterday and all loved it (me,dh and ds aged 10) - absolutely beautifully done but can see that it might lose the younger children's interest

stepfordwife · 27/10/2007 13:27

lilked it but deffo didn't live up to hype
too long
agree incredibles is the best..

but saw stardust yesterrday.
loved it, but think dc need to be 6 or 7

Celery · 29/10/2007 13:01

It was okay, better than Cars, not as good as classic Pixar.

cheeryface · 29/10/2007 13:03

dh was chuckiling away thought it was good. ds2 got a bit fed up towards the end and i was really bored.
didn't rate it

sandyballs · 29/10/2007 13:12

I liked it but the DD's got a bit fidgety (6). I think the story line is a bit over their heads tbh. They didn't really get it.

ShaunOfTheThread · 29/10/2007 13:12

I thought Ratatouille was bloody brilliant.
Loved Peter O'Toole (or was it a sound-alike) as the critic Anton Ego (Egon Ronay??)

ShaunOfTheThread · 29/10/2007 13:15

Ooh, and before we criticise, we should remember the line in the film that goes something like 'the act of criticism is less creative than the worst peice of junk that may be subjected to criticism'

And nice to see an American film about France that wasn't anti-French for a change.

bootsmonkey · 29/10/2007 13:20

Stepfordwife - saw Stardust at the w/e - it was absolutely brilliant!! I loved it! DD is 5.5 and also loved it although she is probably a bit young for it and mostly went over her head. She got the bit about princes and magic and all that. I think it is the best kids fi, I have seen in a while! And nice that it was live action instead of animation.

bootsmonkey · 29/10/2007 13:21

better than Ratatouille!!

stepfordwife · 29/10/2007 14:44

weren't the ghost uncles hilarious, boots? and claire danes was fab - much better than that sienna miller bint.
erm, i'd quite like to see it gain or might wait until DVD is out...
