And it isn't. But it is good. Its annoying however that Sam Riley looks much more like Pete Doherty than Ian Curtis. Hes very good though - hes studied his Curtis vids well.

Lovely in black and white - captures the drabness and I just came out thinking why didn't they take better care of him? They I suppose being Factory or someone. He was so obviously struggling. Far, far too young to get married and all that. [I did sometimes find myself thinking what a shite for treating his wife like that tho...]

Anyone else seen?

Haven't seen it but it's something I would like to see. Agree that you know it's not cheery subject, especially since everyone knows the unfortunate ending! - a bit like the Sid and Nancy film from few years back.

Wonder if there'll be a film about Pete Doherty in the future!?!

actress playing Annick, the Belgian fan, was sooo annoying. 'So, tell me about Macclesfield...' indeed. She and chap playing IC are a rl couple, I read.

I began to loathe IC after his first suicide note (to his wife, saying this should put an end to the fighting and 'ps, give my love to Annick': suddenly the cinema was full of the sound of women inhaling sharply). Tosser! Actor brilliant though.

DH and I agreed that if either of the DCs want to get married very young, we'll force them watch this first

I just watched it and came to look for a thread. Really sad - like niceglasses I think the film brought out my maternal feelings (I am getting old...) and I just thought oh why didn't someone look after him a bit better - he was just a daft kid. 23 is so young. I thought Sam Riley did Ian Curtis very well - dh agrees and he is the die-hard Joy Division fan.

Also interesting for me because we live in Macclesfield - 77 Barton Street is just round the corner and dh works with a woman who is friends with the people who live there now. Even now they get fans knocking on the door asking to see the kitchen...can't say I'd want to live there.

It just seems like such a pointless waste - he was so talented and so troubled - but no, I didn't 'like' him much (have also read Deborah Curtis' book which paints a much less charitable picture of him than the film). And of course his poor dd, who was only a year old when he died.
